DAVIE, FL, April 08, 2013 (Press-News.org) As of late March this year, the TFF (Toral Family Foundation) has granted additional funding in order to expand a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) research study that is currently being led by Latha Ganti Stead MD, MBA, MS, FACEP, the principal investigator and Toral Family Foundation Endowed Professor of Traumatic Brain Injury at the University of Florida, College of Medicine. The purpose of this research study is to measure the quality of life of those whom have sustained a moderate to severe TBI as well as their families. This study will also focus on tracking and measuring the overall results for persons that have recently been diagnosed with a moderate to severe TBI.
In addition, the project will consist of a resource facilitation coordinator that will have direct contact with each person that has been diagnosed with a moderate to severe TBI within the first 24 to 72 hours. This will help to connect those families whose members have sustained a TBI to national, state and local resources critical to funding as well as care.
Through research, education and access to resources, the nonprofit organization of the Toral Family Foundation will focus on collaborating with the health care community in order to improve the lives of those with brain and spinal cord injuries. Many are hoping that this study will help to collect outcome related data that can help improve medical care in the chronic phase of a TBI as well as provide faster and easier care for a greater quality of life. The Delray site is expecting the study to begin by the middle of April 2013.
Additional Funds Given to State-Wide TBI Study
Recently, the Toral Family Foundation has given additional funds to the Delray Medical Center in order to help those that have recently sustained a TBI.
