MaverickMom.com has gained notoriety in the Boca Raton area, and Benton is known for her attention grabbing headlines, her humor and authenticity, and her deep passion for fitness and healthy lifestyle.
The article highlighted Benton's passion for fitness, her style of writing, and her "do it all" approach to life. She was recognized for being a doctoral level professional, a CrossFitter, a runner, a mother, and a wife.
Benton grew up in Florence, where she attended West Florence High School. Benton completed her professional training at the Miami VA Hospital in Miami, FL and went into private practice in the Myrtle Beach area for 6 years. She and her husband, Mike Benton, relocated to the Boca Raton area with their 6 year old daughter, Savanna, in 2010.
Benton began the blog when she took maternity leave from her professional practice in 2006 after having her daughter, Savanna. "I love health and fitness, and I love to write, so the blog just seemed the natural thing to do," Benton stated. "I write about things that happen within the cells and between the cells, too, when people exercise. I take an empirically based approach to fitness and health, so you can usually find empirically based information on just about anything on MaverickMom.com."
Benton combines her professional expertise and her personal experiences to share information related to health, longevity, mood, and exercise. Her most popular article to date is entitled, "How to Be Smart, Thin Joyful, Focused, Energetic, and Motivated," a post which has drawn thousands of visitors on her site. Benton has written hundreds of science based articles related to mood, motherhood, health, and family over the years and continues to add to her cache of information about once a week.
Benton currently practices as a Clinical Psychologist in Fort Lauderdale, FL, where she specializes in Sports Performance and Health Psychology. She loves CrossFit, running, blogging, reading, and spending time with her husband and daughter.
