GREENVILLE, NC, April 11, 2013 (Press-News.org) Greenville Criminal Defense Attorney Mary Catherine Stokes recently returned to her former high school, Arendell Parrott Academy, to speak to high school students about the process of becoming a lawyer and what the career entails. Ms. Stokes, who is an associate attorney at The Robinson Law Firm, P.A., served as a speaker the school's Career Series event on March 8, 2013. The lawyer graduated from Arendell Parrott Academy in 2005.
In addition to explaining what she does as a criminal defense lawyer, Ms. Stokes also discussed which college majors students should pursue if they are interested in becoming lawyers. She distributed timelines that broke down how students should prepare for law school during their undergraduate college careers and explained general requirements for getting accepted into law school. Furthermore, the lawyer showed the students a statute book and a case, explaining how law students learn to use cases as tools for analyzing laws. The event, which was held during the school's lunch period, was open to students in the 9th through 12th grades.
By returning to her former high school, the alumnus was able to give young people a glimpse into the career path and career of an attorney. This type of exposure provides important information that can help students decide whether or not they want to pursue careers in law.
After graduating from high school, Ms. Stokes received her bachelor's degree from Furman University, and then later her law degree from Campbell University School of Law (which she received in May 2012). Once she completed law school, Ms. Stokes moved back to Greenville, North Carolina to work as a criminal defense lawyer.
Ms. Stokes was a highly active law student during her time at Campbell University School of Law. In addition to being a member of professional law fraternity Delta Theta Phi, she served as a member of Women in Law, Campbell Council for Po Bono and Community Outreach. She also worked with Campbell's Juvenile Justice Project as a facilitator. The project (a joint effort between the law school and the North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission) focused on fostering collaboration between victims and juvenile offenders as alternatives to punishment. Ms. Stokes was additionally involved in various other activities during her law career, including an internship that allowed her to practice criminal law in district court.
Today, Ms. Stokes provides her clients in the Greenville area with dedicated legal representation through The Robinson Law Firm, P.A. She is able to handle criminal cases in both state and federal court, and she is also a member of multiple professional organizations. A few of those include the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, the Pitt County Academy of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Pitt County Bar Association, among others. Robinson Law Firm, P.A. provides representation for various types of criminal cases. More details about the firm are available at http://www.greenvillecriminaldefenselaw.com.
