NEW YORK, NY, April 12, 2013 (Press-News.org) As a call to action to bring an end to violence against girls and women, Emmy Award-winning musician and advocate for social change Peter Buffett is releasing the "Silence Broken" music video in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This visual complement to the song honors women around the globe by sharing their stories and the truth behind sexual assault and trafficking.
"We know that between 70 to 90 percent of children and adults who are recruited into the commercial sex industry were sexually abused as children. The lessons learned as a victim of sexual abuse serve well in the commercial sex industry. As women's and sexual rights activist Andrea Dworkin once said, 'Incest is boot camp for prostitution'" says Rachel Lloyd, Founder of GEMS, an organization that serves girls and young women who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. This astounding statistic and a meeting with the young women at GEMS inspired the concept for the song and music video.
"Silence Broken" paints a thought-provoking picture of innocence stolen. Buffett's words underscore the necessity of speaking the truth about sexual violation and the emotional turmoil these victims experience. The video depicts these real-life stories of women with the hope of showing the beauty of childhood against phrases written by girls and women about their experiences and feelings of isolation. The superimposition of the text and the images delivers a very powerful piece contrasting what is alive in a child and what should never happen to anyone.*
You can watch the video for "Silence Broken" on Peter's youtube pageand read Buffett's essay on the topic on Huffington Post Impact

*The photos in this video are meant to serve as a representation of all the women in our lives - sisters, mothers, nieces, daughters and friends. The words are real. The photos depicted in this video are not necessarily victims of trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.
