Seijin No Hi is a national holiday and marks the coming of age for young Japanese adults who have reached the age of 20. Celebrations are held in the city in order to congratulate the young adults on reaching the age of majority and to help them to realize that they have become adults.
The occasion has been celebrated throughout Japan since 714AD after a young prince wore new robes and adopted a new hairstyle to mark his coming of age.
