SAN DIEGO, CA, May 05, 2013 (Press-News.org) Jackson Design & Remodeling - a San Diego-based design build firm and winner of three consecutive BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics - is proud to announce the company has won a National Chrysalis award for the remodel of a San Diego bathroom with a unique 'his and hers' design. One of the most sought after awards programs in the country, 350 Chrysalis entries were received this year in 16 categories.
JDR's remodel of a bathroom located in San Diego was awarded "Best Bathroom" in the nation in the category Bath Remodel over $60,000.
Built for a couple sharing a master bathroom in the home they have owned for more than 30 years, a sense of separate space was essential for the clients who wanted a modern organic aesthetic with earthy simplicity. Space planning was critical for this room, created from the existing bathroom plus space borrowed from a little-used landing. Distinct areas for the husband and wife mirror each other with pleasing symmetry and create the sense of personal space the clients desired. Floating vanity cabinetry is an architectural element that establishes a light, open feeling. Haze alzak recessed lighting, carefully chosen for environmentally conscious clients, provides the best light output with the least amount of glare. The design's appealing character is expressed with material and finish choices. Quarter sawn oak cabinetry displays a subtle, complex texture. Dramatic slab travertine in the shower is reminiscent of the surrounding sandstone hills, much beloved by the homeowners.
"We're thrilled to win this award," said Todd Jackson, President of Jackson Design and Remodeling. "This bathroom was a team effort and represented our unified approach to remodeling with designers, architects and project managers all working side by side to make the client's dream a reality. The mirror image design was perfect for creating two distinct spaces for this husband and wife, who after sharing a bathroom for 30 years were looking for something different, beyond the typical double sink layout. This design gives them each their own space and required careful architectural planning to make it work. Seeing the look on our client's faces when they saw the new bathroom was exciting for all of us. To win a national Chrysalis award for this project is really the icing on the cake."
Continuing to set new standards of professionalism, 78 remodeling companies from across the United States were named winners at the 2013 Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence. The entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.
The judges this year consisted of the editor of Houseplans.com, a former editor of Southern Living Magazine, and the Executive Director of the American Institute of Building Design.

Denied disability benefits? Don't waste your chance to appeal
Many employers offer group coverage long-term disability insurance as part of their employee compensation packages, providing a source of income for workers who are unable to work as a result of an injury or illness. Long-term disability insurance kicks in when short-term disability benefits expire, often after a period three or six months, depending on the policy.
Long-term disability provides benefits equal to a certain percentage of the person's salary, and continue for a fixed number of years or until ...

Trend toward "gender reversal" in marriage affects divorce
Traditional gender roles are changing in marriage and divorce. More women than ever are attending college and obtaining advanced degrees. In recent decades, women have outpaced men in earnings growth as well.
This has resulted in "gender reversal" where the wife often earns more than the husband. A Pew Research Center study that analyzed demographic and economic trends in marriage between 1970 with 2007 found that the share of households where the wife earned more increased from four percent ...

Tax forms and deadlines for reporting foreign financial assets
An inheritance that includes a savings account at a foreign bank may not seem any different from a US Bank checking account. Depending on the amount of assets in a foreign bank account, you may need to disclose the account on one or even several forms.

"We have waited a long time for a gamma-ray burst this shockingly, eye-wateringly bright," said Julie McEnery, project scientist for the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.
