RALEIGH, NC, May 09, 2013 (Press-News.org) As thousands of concertgoers at Cary's Booth Amphitheatre cheered on, Band Together NC Executive Director Matt Strickland and Co-Founder Danny Rosin announced that the May 4 concert event featuring headliner Lyle Lovett had raised a projected $852,722 for the Band Together partnership with Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities (TLCDD).
Band Together NC is a Triangle-based organization that uses live music as a platform for social change. Since its founding in 2001 following the tragic events of 9/11, the organization has raised nearly $3 million for local nonprofits. In addition to Lovett, Band Together's 2013 main concert event also featured NC-based groups Delta Rae, Chatham County Line and Mac and Juice Quartet.
"Every year, we have worked hard to raise the bar for our fundraising goal, and every year Triangle residents have stepped up through their support of live music and our nonprofit partners," said Strickland. "Our generous supporters and tireless volunteers have made this not only our biggest year ever, but one of the best parties to date."
The grand total raised this year eclipsed the $566,000 that Band Together raised last year with 2012 nonprofit partner Urban Ministries of Wake County. Funds were raised through sponsorships, ticket sales, silent auctions, a wine grab, live artist paintings and a raffle at the concert event.
TLCDD is a nonprofit organization offering educational, residential and family support services to children and adults with special needs. Sarah Crawford, The Director of Development for TLCDD said, "Proceeds will go toward expanding services, allowing the organization to make a difference for the nearly 400 families it serves. This includes investing in interactive learning technology to allow for enhanced communication, as well as securing life-saving medical equipment. We will also hire a bilingual therapist to serve the growing needs of the Spanish-speaking community in Wake County. Obviously, we are elated!"
"Band Together is now the largest annual charitable music event in the Southeast, and our vision is to continue growing and evolving it as a signature music event," said Rosin. "We look forward to the year that lies ahead in working alongside two nonprofit partners in 2014, Communities in Schools of Durham County and Communities in Schools of Wake County."
