DENVER, CO, May 09, 2013 (Press-News.org) Copper Kettle Brewing Company today announced their plans to host a beer festival in celebration and support of the victims of the 2012 Aurora theater shooting.
Last year, Copper Kettle lost one of their own mug club members, Alex Teves, during the terrible events that transpired in Aurora. A few nights later, the small brewery invited all to help support Alex's family and the families of all the victims by donating 100% of beer sales and 50% of food sales from the evening. Hundreds showed up, and Copper Kettle donated over $8,600 to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which matched the donation for a grand total of over $17,300.
"Last year after the shooting, the story went from a news story to a personal story when we found out Alex was one of the victims," said Jeremy Gobien, owner and brewer of Copper Kettle. "A few weeks later we opened our doors to the families and the community, offering a safe place to come be with friends, share stories, and give the families a chance to laugh again. This year, we want to re-open our doors, celebrating Alex's life and the lives of all those lost while surrounded by friends and family."
This year, Copper Kettle is expanding the fundraiser, taking over the parking lot as well. A Night To Remember will consist of over 10 local breweries, three food trucks, two bands, a DJ, and a silent auction. Family members of those involved in Aurora will be present as well, helping to pour beer and share memories. The list of breweries is growing, and so far includes Caution, City Star, Crooked Stave, Elk Mountain, Great Divide, Renegade, River North, and Wit's End, as well as the majority of beer provided by Copper Kettle.
All proceeds from A Night To Remember will benefit the Alexander C Teves ACT Foundation and Phoenix999. The Alexander C Teves ACT Foundation was started in Alex's name, providing funds and opportunities to students with unique needs. Phoenix999, an organization founded by survivors of the Columbine High School Massacre in the wake of Aurora, provides financial assistance and educational resources to victims of and victims' families affected by mass tragedy and violence.
Copper Kettle encourages all attendees to celebrate responsibly and get home safely. Designated Driver tickets will be available, as will many alternative transportation options.
Tickets go on sale May 15 at 9 a.m., and will be available at imbibedenver.com/ANightToRemember.
