2013-05-10
PALO ALTO, CA, May 10, 2013 (Press-News.org) The Downtown Palo Alto Farmers' Market begins its 33rd season on Saturday, May 11, with an expanded selection of growers and sellers offering more fresh local produce and locally produced food than ever before.

"Our mission is to connect food lovers with farmers. And this season you'll see many of the same farms customers have grown to love plus some new ones," said Phil Carter, President of the Downtown Palo Alto Farmers' Market. "We also recognize a growing local food movement and our community's fondness for distinctive small food businesses so in our expanded space in the Market our customers can expect to see some new faces with exciting, delicious products."

Freshly brewed fair-trade coffee from Highnote Coffee, assorted chocolates from Her Coconess Confections, and amazing sauces from Awe-some Sauces are just a few of the new items and vendors customers will be able to find at the Downtown Palo Alto Farmers' Market this season. Others include a new goat cheese vendor, certified organic chickens, and other prepared food stands.

The Market season will get off to a faster than usual start this season because of the recent high temperatures, so customers can expect to see blueberries , cherries and strawberries in season right from opening day this year.

Continuing with its longstanding tradition of financial support to Avenidas, the Market gave $23,000 to Avenidas earlier this year from surplus proceeds of the 2012 market season. Since its inception, the Downtown Palo Alto Farmers' Market has supported Avenidas with $469,000 in contributions.

The Downtown Palo Alto Farmers' Market is a 501(c)4 non-profit organization dedicated to connecting food lovers with local farms since 1981. For more information, visit: http://www.pafarmersmarket.org
