2013-05-12
LOS ANGELES, CA, May 12, 2013 (Press-News.org) Yo San University, Southern California's premiere academic institution for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is presenting Debbie Allen with the Robert Graham Visionary Award on May 18, 2013. Held at Wolfgang Puck's Spectra in the Pacific Design Center, the award recognizes Allen for her dedication to Eastern methods of health and wellness and her personal contributions to Yo San University and health in general. "They have kept me physically and spiritually healthy for the last 25 years and are doing so much for the community" explains Allen. Included in the evening's program are special performances by singer/songwriter James Ingram and singer Freda Payne.

The event will be an intimate affair involving Yo San University supporters, Allen's family, friends, and colleagues, and many other advocates of TCM. In addition to food and drinks, a live auction will be held, featuring a few items donated by Allen herself, performances from James Ingram and Freda Payne, and a dance number from Dada Ensemble. All proceeds from the event will benefit Yo San University's Community Clinic Program where free and low-cost TCM services are provided to low-income and at-risk Los Angelenos.

The Robert Graham Visionary Award was the inspiration of actress Anjelica Huston, artist Steven Graham, and Yo San University co-founders, Dr. Daoshing Ni and Dr. Mao Shing Ni. In honor of her late husband, Robert Graham, the award recognizes individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to wellness and healthcare in the United States or abroad. Past honorees include Robert Downey Jr., Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, and Sela Ward.

Yo San University is a nonprofit university that educates students to become exceptional practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the Taoist healing arts. Founded in 1989, Yo San offers both Master's and Doctoral degrees in TCM training that incorporate spiritual cultivation into the professional practice of healing. Yo San University operates a low-cost on-campus clinic and also partners with prominent community health organizations to provide free integrative medical care at five externship sites throughout Los Angeles. More than 21,000 treatments are rendered annually by Yo San University's community program.
