MADISON, WI, May 21, 2013 (Press-News.org) Wellbe.me announced today the official debut of the Patient Guidance System for Total Joint Replacement at the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) 33rd Annual Congress.
Wellbe designed the system, in conjunction with surgeons and care coordinators, to provide patients with multiple benefits including the convenience of online education, family involvement, checklists and reminders. The system is fully aligned with other points of care -- Pre-admissions testing, Joint Camps, and Physical Therapy -- to create a single, streamlined experience.
"The online guided program for total joints is a wonderful adjunct to our face-to face-teaching. It reinforces the pathway in small doses that do not overwhelm the patient," said Sandra Nettrour PA-C, Orthopaedic Service Line Coordinator for the Butler Health System Total Joints Program. "I'm pleased with the ability to collect real-time data that enables rapid program modification and boosts patient satisfaction. We are ahead of the curve in providing functional outcomes data with minimal staff effort."
A Patient Guidance System can help standardize the coordination of care from the point of decision to one year post-surgery or longer. By enabling an online patient-provider partnership that goes beyond the facility walls, health systems can see gains in efficiency and engagement across the entire continuum of care.
"We designed the Patient Guidance System from the ground up for orthopedic departments to help set patient expectations, align their programs to standards of care and reduce variances," said James Dias, CEO and Founder of Wellbe.me. "Our clients are seeing returns in higher patient satisfaction scores, better care economics, and other competitive advantages."
The program, currently in use at multiple U.S. hospitals, is accessed via the web on PCs or iPads. Hospitals or surgery centers enroll patients when they are scheduled for surgery, and the program covers the entire patient care journey, providing timely instructions, education (including videos), preparation checklists, decision-support tools for discharge planning, and feedback surveys.
"I especially loved the online tool program. It really answered a lot of questions I had, and made me aware of important things," said Marilyn P., a Total Joint Replacement patient. "Everything seemed to run smooth and prepared me for what was to happen."
Enrolled patients at all live sites have reported better satisfaction with the experience with convenient online access to all the information they need on-demand in a timely, easy-to-digest format to educate themselves and take care of other formalities when and where they want to.
