YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND, May 30, 2013 (Press-News.org) Come ghost hunting in Lincolnshire and be a ghost hunter for a night and follow in the ghostly footsteps of some of its illustrious royal visitors. Both Richard III and Henry VIII were guests of the Burgh family, who originally built and lived in the building. The Mayflower Pilgrims and John Wesley also worshipped within its walls.
The Great Hall with its splendid, arched, wooden roof remains at the centre of the building and continues to inspire visitors. The kitchens remain virtually unchanged since they were built and those who climb to the top of the brick built tower can enjoy the magnificent vista of both the manor lands and the river Trent into Nottingham.
Are you brave enough to come on a ghost hunt in Gainsborough with Simply Ghost Nights, in this eerie looking most haunted of old buildings known as Gainsborough Old Hall. Gainsborough Old Hall stands on the grounds of an old castle that King Sweyn of Denmark lived in. It is also said that when he died in 1014, it was as a direct result of years of torment by the ghost of St. Edmund, who had been martyred by the Danes 140 years prior.
The current Manor was built between 1465 and 1485 and it is said King Sweyn can be heard moaning in the Great Hall where the foundations of the original castle were built on.
Another spirit who is said to frequent Gainsborough Old Hall is that of a young lady, who is said to be seen walking the long corridor upstairs and then disappearing into thin air, she is believed to be the daughter of one of the former owners of the hall, she is said to have who fallen in love with a knight from Newark Castle. Her father not wanting his daughter to have a relationship with the Knight is said to have locked her up in the tower. It is not known what happened to her after her incarceration or even if she survived it, but her ghost which is said to be seen many times still remains to this day, mourning the loss of her one true love.
On our previous visits to Gainsborough Old Hall we have encountered some fantastic paranormal activity, such as tables moving by themselves and also in a vigil with Rosey a group asked for a tapping noise and almost immediately they heard the sound of constant tapping for around five seconds, from across the room. As the vigil continued the paranormal activity continued with members of the group experiencing cool breezes on them, and a light groan was heard as well, as the tapping continued on request it all got too much for Corin as he became more agitated, it was then that Rosey radioed for Mark one of our brave paranormal investigators to come to the vigil area and stand with Corin to reassure him.
Numerous groups recorded torches been turned on by the spirit world, and the movement of dark shadows were also spotted by our keen eyed ghost hunters. In one glass divination experiment with Stuart the spirit of a lady called Jane Guy communicated to inform the group that she had worked at the hall when it was a linen factory, and that she had passed away with dysentery with many co-workers at the linen factory in 1929, and Jane also mentioned her grandads name a Mr. Fawbes, to the amazement of Michelle, Pat, and Lauren.
