The Yoga Factory Debuts as First AntiGravity Yoga Studio in San Diego, Offering Over 60 Yoga and Pilates Classes Weekly

Since opening its doors in April 2013, the Hillcrest-based studio has been building a countywide clientele with its unique classes, taught by industry-acclaimed instructors

2013-05-30
SAN DIEGO, CA, May 30, 2013 (Press-News.org) Fitness is taking flight in San Diego, this spring: The Yoga Factory (www.theyoga-factory.com) is making its debut in Hillcrest and across the County as the first San Diego studio specializing in AntiGravity Aerial Yoga, AntiGravity Aerial Pilates and Acroyoga .

Located in the second floor loft at 1228-A University Ave. in Hillcrest, the 5,000 sq. ft. studio is comprised of three distinguished rooms, hosting a multitude of classes, including: Hot Yoga, Cool Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Kundalini, Thai Yoga, Restorative, AntiGravity Aerial Yoga, Yin-Reiki Yoga and Aerial or Mat Pilates.

While other local studios do offer aerial yoga to their clients, The Yoga Factory is the only facility in San Diego certified to teach AntiGravity Aerial Yoga, which was founded by Christopher Harrison and only practiced at certified studios nationwide. This yoga presents a unique fusion to relieve compressed joints and align the body from head to toe. The AntiGravity hammocks, of which The Yoga Factory has 10, act as a soft trapeze and aid for students to transition into more advanced yoga or Pilates' poses during their practice.

"We've heard it all from our students. It looks a little like a circus act, feels like hanging from a jungle gym, and tends to elicit a chorus of 'aaahs' instead of 'oms;' but so far, we've heard nothing but rave reviews and watched our first-time clients returning for another round," said Melanie Campanero, Owner of The Yoga Factory. "Our team has taken a much more diverse approach to yoga, inviting all skill-levels, body types and ages into our studio. We aim to provide a powerful tool to integrate proper alignment and positive energy into our members' everyday lives."

After years in the yoga industry, Melanie and Mel Campanaro saw the demand for a more specialized yoga practice and teamed up with experienced instructors to create The Yoga Factory concept.

After opening The Yoga Factory, they created a weekly line-up of classes that emulates their innovative approach to yoga. The round-up includes: Reggae Vinyasa Mondays, AcroYoga Tuesdays, Ashtanga Improv Wednesdays, Yin-Reiki Yoga Thursdays and Thai Massage Yoga Fridays.

"It starts with easing students into the mindset that doing something new is beneficial for their bodies, minds and souls, rather than continuing to focus on everyday routines that can keep us mundanely satisfied," said Campanaro. "Our teachers are given creative freedom allowing every one of their classes to be new, fun and true to their practice. This means even our traditional mat classes are invigorating."

All of the current, certified yoga and Pilates instructors at The Yoga Factory are highly trained in all levels and techniques offered at the studio. The instructors switch between the different rooms, hosting classes from 15 to 50 students at a time.

The raw and industrial nature of the space positions students in an airy, open space and the delicate lighting of the studio is complemented by the exposed steal trusses, brick and hardwood flooring to make up The Yoga Factory's ambiance.

In addition to the diverse class offerings in-studio daily, The Yoga Factory also offers "open studio time" and donation-based classes on Sundays at Balboa Park, giving individuals the opportunity to practice at no cost.

The Yoga Factory was chosen as Lululemon's Studio of the Month in January 2013 and will be featured again as the athletic wear's Studio of the Month this July. The Best of Gay San Diego also recently awarded The Yoga Factory as "Best Yoga Studio."

The Yoga Factory is located at 1228-A University Ave. (entrance on Cleveland Ave.), San Diego, CA 92103.

About The Yoga Factory

As a result of Owner Mel Campanaro's extensive yoga practice and philosophy, The Yoga Factory was born in February 2013, with a team of certified, highly-experienced instructors offering an eclectic array of class. The Hillcrest studio, located in the second floor loft at 1228-A University Ave., brings a fresh approach to yoga and Pilates that defies both tradition and gravity.

Through its specialized AntiGravity Aerial Yoga and Pilates, founded by Christopher Harrison and practiced at certified studios nationwide, The Yoga Factory acts as a safe-haven for students to explore their bodies' abilities, all while being supervised by trained instructors. A calm and safe atmosphere brings both amateur and experienced yogis though its doors to experience Hot Yoga, Cool Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Kundalini, Thai Yoga, Restorative, AntiGravity Aerial Yoga, Yin-Reiki Yoga and Aerial or Mat Pilates.
