Marathon Runners Sought To Join Team Miles for Hope

Miles for Hope is seeking athletes who wish to compete in marathons and endurance events across the country and that have a desire to find better treatments for brain tumors and ultimately a cure for them.

2010-08-25
CLEARWATER, FL, August 25, 2010 (Press-News.org) Miles for Hope is seeking marathon runners who wish to compete in the ING Miami Marathon this January. "Miles for Hope will be offering those who wish to join Team Miles for hope access to a comprehensive nutrition and training program as well as exclusive technical shirt and numerous other benefits to show our gratitude for their support of our mission to find better, less toxic treatments for brain tumors," stated Barb Gibbs, Executive Director of Miles for Hope.

Brain tumors affect over 200,000 people each year, one person every 3 minutes in the United States. Miles for Hope, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was founded by brain cancer survivor Robert Gibbs, as a means to increase funding to combat the disease. "Through our organization, patients can find information on the latest, most advanced options available for the treatment of brain tumors," stated Gibbs. "Our mission is to raise awareness and funding for brain tumor research as well as cutting edge clinical trials leading to treatments that provide a better quality of life for brain tumor patients."

In addition to the ING Miami Marathon, Miles for Hope anticipates that during 2011, they will gain access to numerous other marathons and triathlons across the nation, including the New York Marathon in November of 2011. Team members will have access to comprehensive running and cycling training programs which have been put together by two of the nation's best marathon and endurance trainers. Our running programs are compiled by Hal Higdon, a contributing editor for Runner's World and author of a best-seller "Marathon: The Ultimate Training Guide". Our cycling programs are put together by Dirk Friel, a professional cyclist and USA Certified cycling coach. "We also have training programs for those that may only wish to compete in one of our Moving Towards A Cure 5k Runs across the nation, so there is a training program to fit your level of fitness," added Gibbs.

"Miles for Hope recognizes that when you choose to become a team member, you are not only making a commitment to yourself to achieve your personal goals, you are also making a commitment to help us raise awareness and better treatments for brain tumors by raising funds to save lives. Our commitment to you is the assurance that the money you raise will find better treatments such as vaccines and other cutting edge treatments that provide a better quality of life for brain tumor patients. We will do everything we can to assist you whether or not you have fundraising experience, we have helpful resources, tips, and suggestions that will help you meet and exceed your training and fundraising goals," says Gibbs.

Miles for Hope is the first organization in the country to be instrumental in giving patients the ability to store cancer tissue, like cord blood, for more personalized treatments and future access to cancer vaccine clinical trials as they move through the clinical trial process. In addition, Miles for Hope leads the way and provides access for patients to the most cutting edge clinical trials currently available for the treatment of brain tumors.

For additional information on Team Miles for Hope or on brain tumor symptoms, treatment options and tumor tissue banking, please visit Miles for Hope website at http://MilesForHope.org or contact them at (727) 781-HOPE (4673). Donations can also be made securely online through the website.

Miles for Hope was established by Bob & Barb Gibbs to raise funds for promising brain tumor clinical trials and research. We are dedicated to raising funds to improve current treatments for brain tumors, and to assist brain tumor patients with travel expenses for their treatment.

Our goal at Miles for Hope is to provide a complete source for cutting edge treatment and support for both the patient and care givers. There are many wonderful sources of information on the Internet for brain tumors, and our goal is to compile these resources at one location. Here you will find a large support forum full of information, the most current clinical trial information, breaking news regarding brain tumors, and other support and awareness tools for your use in combating and fighting brain tumors.
