Independent Artist Launches Indiegogo Fundraiser for Retro-Futurist Graphic Novel

Katharine Miller, author and illustrator, turns to alternative funding sources for her first graphic novel, BORIS: ROBOT OF LEISURE, an examination of the life of a space-age novelty.

TORONTO, CANADA, June 08, 2013

Independent author Katharine Miller has until June 30 to raise $2,500 to print her first graphic novel BORIS: ROBOT OF LEISURE. After three years of dedication to every aspect of book production, from creative tasks to technical chores, Miller has finally found one challenge she can't tackle on her own—funding.

Armed with a finished product and tons of incentives, Miller set up a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo to raise funds for the printing, shipping, and distribution of the 230-page full-colour paperback edition. Miller would like to raise $2500 to cover printing and shipping costs for 100 copies of BORIS: ROBOT OF LEISURE.

Miller plans to reward contributors with Robot of Leisure related perks, including the paperback edition of BORIS: ROBOT OF LEISURE for donations of $25 or more. Other incentives include set of ROBOT OF LEISURE ebooks, original custom artwork, and limited edition magnets and toys. As the campaign progresses, Miller offers rewards to donors and followers in the form of free downloads of original digital wallpaper and printable bookmarks and paper dolls.

BORIS: ROBOT OF LEISURE is a graphic novel that blends retro-futuristic science fiction, mid-century cocktail culture and silent comedy into a timely and surprisingly human story of one robot's pursuit of happiness and fulfillment. Miller experiments with the graphic novel form through juxtaposition of hand drawn illustrations and vector graphics, minimal use of dialogue or narration, and vivid full-colour panels. ROBOT OF LEISURE is still available in its original serial format for digital editions, while the Complete Series, which wrapped in late 2012, has been combined into a single edition for print.

The official website for BORIS: ROBOT OF LEISURE offers generous previews of the entire series, with a full free download of the first installment, BORIS AND THE OPEN HOUSE.
