FORT MYERS, FL, November 03, 2010 (Press-News.org) Robb & Stucky is ready for some football. The employees are geared up for a "Wellness by Design" corporate-wide competition for the most steps walked and counted on pedometers. The walking competition has an NFL theme and even a "Super Bowl".
"Wellness by Design" was developed by the company's human resources department and created to help employees identify personal health risks, encourage personal responsibility for health and wellness, provide motivation and support to help employees make healthy choices, control healthcare costs through disease prevention, and improve overall employee morale and well-being.
The internal, corporate-wide Pro Football Walking Event began on Monday, October 11 and will continue for 6 weeks. The competition measures the total steps associates take throughout the course of the day. In a similar event last year, with a NASCAR theme, nearly 800 employees signed-up to participate and don pedometers, an astounding 82.9 percent of the company. Participants walked an astonishing 181,251,254 steps in the year 2009.
The company, with several locations in Florida, Texas, Arizona and Nevada has been divided into conferences based on the size of the location. Each location/team has taken on a moniker of a pro football team. Teams report their steps and the team with the most steps counted become the "Super Bowl" champs.
"We have received an incredible response to this program," states J Robert Gould, vice president of human resources for Robb & Stucky. "I think our associates are willing to live a healthier lifestyle and take the appropriate steps in doing so. A little friendly competition, team bonding and bragging rights between colleagues and stores is an added benefit."
