Master-Planned Community Del Sur Starts Construction on New Poway Unified School

The third and final Del Sur school will serve students in grades K-8 starting in fall of 2014.

2013-06-13
SAN DIEGO, CA, June 13, 2013 (Press-News.org) New home community Del Sur is starting construction on its third and final school within the community; Poway Unified School District's School No. 39. On May 9, District and community members officially broke ground on the K-8 school, which is located on the corner of Lone Quail Rd. and Camino del Sur in San Diego.

School No. 39 will complement Del Sur schools Del Norte High School, which opened in 2009 and Del Sur Elementary School, which opened in 2008. Sandi Burgoyne, Director of Planning for the Poway Unified School District worked with Del Sur on the development of these schools, and will continue working with Del Sur on School No. 39.

"Since the early 1990s, the developer of Del Sur has embraced the District's commitment to academic excellence," said Burgoyne. "They have always provided a hands-on approach when it comes to development of educational facilities for students in their community, participating both in the structural design and curriculum development of their community schools. Del Sur continues to participate in the various stages of development, planning, construction and on-going maintenance of the educational facilities, then goes beyond by contributing and participating in their community school activities. We look forward to this continued support with School No. 39."

Spanning 22 acres, School No. 39 will include 156,000 square feet of learning space with 56 teaching stations, a gym pavilion, amphitheater, fitness trail and more.

The school is scheduled to open in fall of 2014 and will serve 1,500 students.

"We look forward to working with Poway Unified to create another tremendous school for the kids at Del Sur and in surrounding communities," said Bill Ostrem, president at Del Sur. "From a TV studio at Del Sur Elementary School to a state-of-the-art library at Del Norte High School to the planned tools and amenities at School No. 39, Del Sur will continue to house terrific learning facilities for area kids."
