New York City Launches the Nation's Largest Bike Share Program

New York City launched Citi Bike system, the nation's largest bike share system. The bike share system was with a $41 million sponsorship.

2013-06-19
ATLANTA, GA, June 19, 2013 (Press-News.org) New York City launched Citi Bike system, the nation's largest bike share system, on May 27. The bike share system was built and designed by the Public Bike System Company, and Citi Bank funded the project with a $41 million sponsorship.

Although the bike share program has some advantages over bike ownership when it comes to parking and maintenance costs, the program does not replace the benefits of actually owning a bike.

Citi Bike recommends cyclers to consider bike rentals or shops, if they need a bike for an extended period of time. In fact, if a Citi Bike isn't returned with 24 hours, the bike is considered stolen, and a fee of up to $1,000 is charged to the member's credit card.

Despite the drawbacks, the program is one of the city's latest efforts to make New York City a more bike-friendly city. New York State has long been a leader in the cycling world. New York was the first state in the country to establish a bike path in 1894. Other recent developments include the creation of hundreds of new bike paths and laws to promote cycling.

According to Guy Pierce, the owner of Geared2U, serious cyclers should have a mini bike pump (visit http://www.minibikepump.com for more information), in case of a "slow leak or flat." When studying the cycling market, Pierce and his team realized "there was a need for a high quality frame mount pump that bikers could depend on when they needed it most."

Geared2U is now offering a premium mini bike pump called the Pump Me Up! Mini Bike Pump. The bike tire pump ensures that bikers are never left stranded with a flat tire. The pump works with any type of bike and is currently available exclusively at Amazon.

The mini hand pump has an air capacity of up to 110 PSI and a twist-lock handle design that prevents the pump from opening when it's not in use. The pump comes with a lifetime guarantee.

Geared2U is an outdoor sporting goods company that currently specializes in mini bike pumps. The company plans to offer more products soon. You can visit Geared2u at http://www.geared2u.com
