TUSTIN, CA, June 20, 2013 (Press-News.org) Carothers DiSante & Freudenberger LLP (CDF), a firm where workplace diversity is at the core, has added two summer law clerks as part of its involvement in Diversity Fellowship Programs through the Sacramento and San Diego Bar Associations. Since 2003, CDF has mentored numerous diverse first-year law students, helping them achieve successful legal careers at law firms and within corporate legal departments.
"At CDF, we not only counsel employers on the advantages of maintaining a diverse and balanced workplace, but we follow the same internal practice," said partner Mark Spring. "We see great value in having diversity in the legal community and believe that our involvement in the Diversity Fellowship Programs in San Diego and Sacramento is one of many ways we can help support those values."
Diversity Fellowship Programs are initiatives sponsored by select Bar Associations across the country with a common goal of increasing diversity in law firms and corporate legal departments. The programs offer minorities and otherwise disadvantaged students in good academic standing the opportunity to clerk for a law firm or corporate legal department during their summer break. Mr. Spring has served on the committee of the Sacramento Diversity Fellowship Program for nine years. In 2009, the firm's San Diego managing partner, Dave Carothers, co-founded his county's program.
"We started a Diversity Fellowship Program in San Diego with fellow attorneys and firms who value workplace diversity and balance as much as CDF does," said Carothers. "We are proud to see incredible talent recruited from the program each year and mentor and develop many of these deserving students into skilled attorneys."
This summer, Samantha McPherson of California Western School of Law joins CDF's San Diego office. Chelsea Tibbs, a student a University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, has joined the Sacramento office as their summer fellow. Both women maintain exemplary academic standing among a host of other impressive accomplishments. McPherson is the VP of the Black Law Students Association, while Tibbs is a founding member and president of the McGeorge chapter of the National Lawyers Guild.
