Legal Startup Launches With Goal of Protecting Small Business

IP SmartUp to provide revolutionary legal assistance in filling for patent protection.

2013-06-20
ATLANTA, GA, June 20, 2013 (Press-News.org) In response to the growing concerns over the America Invents Act, and lack of patent protection for solo-inventors and startup CEOs, Atlanta-based company Intellectual Property (IP) SmartUp will launch a first of its kind online patenting platform on Tuesday, June 18, 2013.

According to the new patent laws, the first inventor to file for a patent is entitled to the patent rights of the invention regardless of whether or not another inventor can prove to have conceived the invention earlier.

The website, ipsmartup.com, provides startups and inventors with an intuitive online experience that guides them through the first steps of drafting a patent application, then connects them to a network of patent attorneys who oversee, optimize, and properly file their application to timely secure "Patent Pending" status.

Up until now, if a solo-inventor or startup CEO wanted to protect their innovation, they would need to either learn to draft and file for a patent on their own, go with a fill-in-the- blank template service like LegalZoom, or retain representation from an IP firm.

According to IP SmartUp cofounder Mike Avady, "Options one and two likely won't lead to any type of enforceable patent protection, and option three just isn't affordable," IP SmartUp provides a much needed alternative with its one-of-a-kind "Attorney-Client Collaboration Interface." The innovative interface allows a patent attorney to view the inventor's live progress in drafting their patent application, provide feedback, and make edits of his own to ensure the application optimally covers the invention.

"Our platform takes care of the formalities in the patent process, provides easy-to-use drafting tools for inventors, and time-saving tools for attorneys. As a result, attorneys can focus their time on optimizing an inventor's patent coverage, and, in turn, inventors save money," says Avady

IP SmartUp is a brand new legal startup located in Atlanta, Georgia, launching in June of 2013. The company was formed in response to the changes in the patent filing process initiated by the America Invents Act that went into effect in March of this year.

Utilizing a cutting edge online platform and a network of experienced patent attorneys familiar with a variety of industries, IP SmartUp aims to change the way innovators and fellow startup companies' file for patent protection.
