Grand Canyon Helicopters Ready For July 4 Holiday Bookings

Grand Canyon Helicopters, the National Park's number one provider of air tour information, is ready and available to help travelers find the best tours at the lowest rates this coming July 4th holiday.

2013-06-21
LAS VEGAS, NV, June 21, 2013 (Press-News.org) - July 4th weekend is one of Grand Canyon National Park's busiest holidays. Many will be enjoying a helicopter ride. If you plan to be one of them, it's best to reserve your flight now.

"Indeed, the start of summer is June 21," said Keith Kravitz, owner of Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour Reviews. "But Independence Day is when the travel season shifts into high gear."

This year, July 4th falls on a Thursday, which means there's just enough time for travelers to take a prolonged road trip.

"Folks interested in flying the Grand Canyon will go to Las Vegas or Tusayan, AZ," said Kravitz. "From there, they can pick from an assortment of air or landing tours."

From Las Vegas, travelers will head to the West Rim, which is 120 east of town. En route, helicopters will go over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam before reaching the West Rim.

"Air-only trips are great for visitors who want to sample the canyon," Kravitz said. "These trips are a great value, but for the money, landing tours give you the most bang for the buck."

The most popular Las Vegas flight lands at the bottom and comes with a Champagne picnic. The other traveler favorite includes a boat ride down the Colorado River and tickets to the Skywalk.

"There are also sunset versions of these tours, too," Kravitz added.

South Rim trips are 30 minutes or 50 minutes long, with an upgrade to an EcoStar 130 helicopter.

"The EcoStar is the cream of the crop," Kravitz said. "These helicopters have larger cabins, 180-degree windshields and stadium style seating. It's a lot like having a private screening of the canyon."

The best time to fly is in the morning or at dusk. Early flights are popular because that's when air is the clearest and the smoothest. End-of-day trips are highly sought because of sunsets.

"Morning and late afternoon flights are in short supply because that's primetime," said Kravitz. "To get those flights, reserve as far in advance as possible. Don't give up if there are none available on the first attempt at booking one. Folks do cancel for various reasons and those seats are then released back into the public domain for sale."

Kravitz also notes that travelers should always purchase helicopter tours online.

"The best deals are clearly on the Internet," he noted. "Don't shop until you drop, though. Go direct to the supplier for the best prices. Once a deal is found, make sure to complete the purchase online in order to get the special Internet rate."

Reconfirming a booking and checking in early is especially important during busy holidays like July 4th.

"Always remember to re-confirm the booking either at the hotel upon arrival or within 24 hours prior to take off," said Kravitz. "And, if self-driving to the heliport, make sure to check in 45 minutes early as opposed to the usual 30 minutes."
