EAU CLAIRE, WI, November 04, 2010 (Press-News.org) Realityworks, Inc., the leader in educational simulations, announced the five finalists for the firm's 2010 RealCare Educator of the Year Contest. Family and Consumer Science educators from around the nation applied for the chance at being the RealCare Educator of the Year.
The winner will be awarded at the 2010 Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE) conference in Las Vegas December 2-4. In addition to conference registration, travel and accommodations, the prize package includes a $1,000 gift certificate for Realityworks products.
Finalists include, Cathy Shadid, family and consumer science teacher from Weatherford High School in Weatherford, OK; David Vixie, a teacher from Paradise Adventist Academy in Paradise, CA; Dr. Wanda Eppes, district psychologist for Cripple Creek District - Victor School in Cripple Creek, CO; Jane Luchtefeld, a teacher from St. Boniface School in Edwardsville, IL and Mary Smith, FACE and health instructor from Tomahawk School District in Tomahawk, WI.
Finalist entries will be reviewed by a formal selection committee and a winner will be determined by November 8. The award recipient will officially receive the award at the ACTE conference.
"The level of submissions we received made it very difficult to narrow the field to five finalists," says Timmothy Boettcher, President of Realityworks, Inc. "When you think about the phrase 'best of the best' - that's what these entries really represent. It was heartwarming and inspirational to read the many entries we received about how these educators go above and beyond to make an amazing impact on the lives of so many students."
The RealCare program includes an intensive, comprehensive curriculum in conjunction with state-of-the-art infant simulators. The infant simulators provide a realistic hands-on experience of caring for a newborn infant. The program has been in use for more than 15 years and is in thousands of schools and organizations around the world.
