SEATTLE, WA, November 06, 2010 (Press-News.org) Garvey Schubert Barer Owner Akane R. Suzuki has been elected through a rigorous peer review process as a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). A select professional organization, ACTEC works to improve trusts and estates representation and pursues reform of the rules of probate, trusts, tax and professional responsibility that pertain to this area of practice. It has approximately 2,600 lawyers nationwide, with 71 members in the state of Washington.
As Chair of the firm's Estate Planning, Probate and Estate Litigation Group, Suzuki's practice focuses on all facets of the estate planning process, from basic planning for families with children to international estate planning, complex trusts, gifting strategies, family business succession planning, and charitable giving, including family foundations. In addition, Suzuki handles probate and trust administration. She also serves on the firm's Executive Committee.
Suzuki is a member and co-founder of the Seattle Chapter of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and an executive committee member of the Washington State Bar Association Real Property, Probate and Trust and Tax Sections. She is a founding board member of the Mother Attorneys Mentoring Association of Seattle and a board member of the Japan Business Association of Seattle. Suzuki received her LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law (2000), her J.D., with honors, from University of Washington School of Law (1999) and her B.A., with honors, from Lewis & Clark College (1995).

Mr. Handyman's President and CEO Todd Recknagel has been elected to the International Franchise Association Board of Directors, effective Feb. 16, 2011.
