SHORELINE, WA, November 06, 2010 (Press-News.org) Amazing Kids! is proud to announce their newest addition to their youth reporting staff for the Amazing Kids! Online Magazine (amazing-kids.org). 17 year old Genevieve L'Esperance ("Gen"), the host and co-producer of GenINCtv, and a self-described "techonomist," will be adding her unique perspective and technical expertise to the Amazing Kids! Online Magazine, a kid-created publication which helps foster kids' creativity and love of learning while inspiring them to "Dream Big," so they may one day realize their own amazing potential.
The tech-savvy teen is the co-columnist of the new Amazing Kids!' "SciTech Kids" column, which features technology and science-related articles, videos and tech product reviews all written by kids and teens like Gen and her Sci Tech Kids co-columnist Brad Bradshaw, a teen from San Antonio, Texas. Gen was recruited for the position because they felt that Gen's unique knowledge and experience working as a young woman in the technology field helps her serve as a role model for girls looking to explore the fields of science and technology as potential future career paths for themselves.
"We know the importance of positive peer role models for children can look up to and emulate. When kids see how passion and hard work by someone 'just like them' leads to innumerable opportunities and success in such exciting and rewarding fields, they feel more confident in their own abilities and strive to achieve their own goals," said Alyse Rome, the founder and visionary of the children's non-profit organization Amazing Kids!, and the publisher of the Amazing Kids! Online Magazine.
"What is equally important besides Gen's own ambitions is her drive to help other children realize their potential. This past summer, rather than choosing to simply 'take it easy' during her summer break, Gen was busy teaching young girls how to program and have fun while doing it," added Alyse. "We are really looking forward to working with Gen, as her knowledge and experience in the tech industry will enhance our ability to explore the many issues surrounding the increased presence of technology in our children's lives. We are especially interested in exploring how we can help promote a more personally and socially-responsible use of technology among our kids and teens, while keeping them safe and healthy."
Genevieve says: "I started in technology with the goal of helping to open a girls' tech training center in Bangladesh," a dream which Gen continues to work towards. "However, I soon realized I had to first help children here at home. They too need to be encouraged to understand the limitless opportunities, both social and economic, that derive from technology as a career." Genevieve, whose list of technical certifications she's achieved continues to grow, adds: "We don't all have to be coders. There are so many technology options in fields like engineering and medicine, options that could help us find a cure for cancer or help us in building greener homes that will help restore global environmental balance. I want all young people to see the bigger picture and to own the future, knowing what has to be done."
Genevieve, a Microsoft Certified Professional at age 15 and a Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist at 16, started her own web channel in early 2010 and has been a vlogger reporting from CES, The Imagine Cup US finals and in July was one of only 12 a Student to Business Delegates chosen from around the world to represent all students at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner conference in Washington this past July. While there, she solo taught 56 girls to program in Small Basic. Gen is an avid reader and is becoming, more and more, a requested teacher and speaker. She will be a featured Amazing Kid! of the Month this fall as she takes on her reporting role for Amazing Kids!.
