KENT, ENGLAND, November 07, 2010 (Press-News.org) On December 1, 1990, Englishman Graham Fagg and Frenchman Phillippe Cozette shook hands through a connecting hole completing the world's longest undersea tunnel.
To mark the anniversary, Eurotunnel is offering return-day trip tickets to France for the special price of GBP20 per car.
With a crossing time of just 35 minutes, Eurotunnel has made it easy for day trippers to experience France and helped popularise affordable and convenient city breaks in Europe.
The 31.4 mile-log Channel Tunnel took six years to construct and was opened to the public in 1994. In 1996 it was named as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
More than 250 million people have passed through the tunnel since it opened, making it a comfortable and popular alternative to taking the ferry to France.
The Eurotunnel breakthrough GBP20 day trip promotion runs from 16th November to 9th December and is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The price includes the car and up to 9 passengers. There are also no luggage or fuel supplements either.
During this promotional period customers can take advantage of a number of exclusive breakthrough offers by simply collecting vouchers from the Eurotunnel Folkestone terminal.
These offers, exclusive to Eurotunnel customers, range from a EUR5 per person entrance ticket to Nausicaa, the Sealife centre based in Boulogne-sur-Mer, as well as a three-course EUR20 per person menu at two of Calais' finest restaurants - l'Histoire Ancienne and Au Cote d'Argent restaurant.
Day trippers looking to stock up for Christmas can take advantage of fantastic wines, spirits and Champagne deals at Eurotunnel's Folkestone and Calais terminals.
Bookings must be made over the phone on 0844 879 7371. For further details, please visit: www.eurotunnel.com.
