AdventureSmith Explorations Develops Land-Based Tours to Enhance Portfolio Brimming with Small Ship Cruises

Specialist for Expedition Cruising AdventureSmith Explorations Announces Land Tours for 2011

2010-11-07
TAHOE CITY, CA, November 07, 2010 (Press-News.org) AdventureSmith Explorations (http://www.adventuresmithexplorations.com/), the active travel company that secures matches between adventure-seeking clients and a treasure trove of small, expedition ships, has a land-based face as well that focuses on distinctive wilderness lodges and boutique hotels that promote proximity to nature and authentic culture.

"While we have been experiencing unprecedented growth in all areas, tours on terra firma are now the fastest growing segment of our overall business," said Todd Smith, AdventureSmith Explorations owner and founder.

"Many of our land programs began as extensions to our small ship cruises. However over time they have become so popular they are now stand alone itineraries in unique destinations. Our accommodations and the people who run them are rooted in the region's environment."

Smith went on to point out that their land tours are designed and operated with the same philosophy as the adventure cruises they offer; small group travel, with exceptional naturalist guides designed to access and explore regions that are off the radar of most travelers and away from tourist crowds.

"We are a company founded by guides and believe that a professional, knowledgeable and personable guide is the key to a successful adventure travel experience be it land-based or small ship cruising," explained Smith.

For the coming year, AdventureSmith Explorations will be offering 41 distinctive land-based tours. Following are the two newest and most ambitious land programs for 2011:

Baja Intimate Insider
http://www.adventuresmithexplorations.com/itinerarydetails.php/advid/320
"Insider" is the operative word because the whole focus of this trip which combines the excitement of Cabo with authentic Old Mexico in Todos Santos is to engage with the local people. Guests mingle on a working rancho with the caballeros, potters and owners who live and work much as they have for the past 200 years. Exclusive visits to art galleries and meetings with the artists unveil the hip and modern side of Todos Santos. Guests are welcome in the kitchen to mingle and learn with the executive chef at a historic hotel where later the staff invites one and all to party into the wee hours.

This tour offers an optional opportunity to volunteer as a language mentor with the Bridge-to-English program in Todos Santos. This is an after-school program for local kids run by a Mexican non-profit. Travelers may volunteer for just a few hours or for several days if they wish. 7 Days from $1,995 per person, double occupancy. Daily year-round departures upon request.

Macro Sensors Spring-Loaded LVDT Position Sensors Ensure Accurate Floor Landing of Elevator Cars

2010-11-07
As passengers travel on elevators at speeds upwards of 2,000 feet/minute, electromechanical control systems rely on sensors to provide the necessary feedback for proper alignment of elevator cars at building floors upon arrival. To ensure a smooth and comfortable ride, elevator cars are suspended by springs within an outer frame that provide cushioning against the effects of acceleration/deceleration and the initial starting and stopping 'jerks' caused by inertia. As an elevator is loaded with passengers, these springs compress changing car position within the frame ...
