Dallas Fares Poorly in Allstate's Rank of the Nation's Safest Drivers

Dallas and other Texas cities received low rankings in a recent national study of safe driving.

2010-11-11
November 11, 2010 (Press-News.org) A recent report by one of the nation's largest automobile insurance carriers ranks the 200 largest U.S. cities by motor vehicle collision frequency, and Texas cities placed well below average in terms of safe driving. Allstate has ranked Fort Collins, Colorado, as "America's Safest Driving City" for 2010, finding that the average driver in that city will be involved in an auto collision once every 14.5 years, 31 percent better than the national average of 10 years.

Laredo, Lubbock and Amarillo were the only Texas cities to exceed the national safe driving average, while Dallas, Arlington and Irving all came in well below at 7.4 years per driver accident. Fort Worth rated slightly better, but Garland had the worst rating of any Texas city at 7 years, not too far above Washington, D.C.'s national low of 5.1 years between collisions.
- The point of the annual study is to focus attention on several safe driving strategies that motorists can practice to reduce the risk of a serious accident and catastrophic injuries:
- Minimize distractions involving cell phone use, text messaging, radios, music players, makeup, eating and other activities
- Pay attention to difficult road conditions caused by weather, construction or other factors
- Maintain a safe distance between your car and other vehicles: at least one car length for every 10 miles per hour of speed
- Avoid road rage by planning ahead and keeping your cool -- do not challenge aggressive drivers and find a safe way to let tailgaters pass
- Keep your vehicle safe by making sure that brakes, tires, lights and other systems will not fail when you need them most

But even the safest driver in the most crashworthy vehicle is vulnerable to the negligent habits of a drunk driver or an overtired trucker. The harm caused by a motor vehicle accident can turn an everyday commute or family outing into a sudden tragedy.

When a Reckless or Careless Driver Has Harmed You or Your Family, Assess Your Options

The streets and highways of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro are no place for the timid. But when smart defensive driving strategies are not enough, a family may need an aggressive advocate to help them obtain the financial compensation required for medical expenses, lost income, property damage and a host of other losses.

Personal injury lawyers provide a variety of vital services to clients. First, they help you fully assess your injuries so that you receive proper medical attention and anticipate future needs. But they can also evaluate the circumstances of a car accident or truck accident and help you identify causes that you may not have even considered, then secure the evidence necessary to support your claim. Finally, an experienced trial attorney can press your case to the full extent when good faith efforts to obtain financial relief from an insurance company fail.
