TAMPA, FL, November 11, 2010 (Press-News.org) Self-taught award-winning sculptor Alfredo Alamo will be one of seventy-two selected artists to exhibit works during the Solo Art Miami 2010 show November 17-19 at the newly renovated Miami Airport Convention Center in Miami. Following Solo Art Miami, Alamo will exhibit his works at the inaugural show of the Steinhausen Art Gallery in Stuart, FL. The Steinhausen Art Gallery show will take place November 27-December 31.
"I firmly believe that art in its pure and fundamental nature, in any genre, is a meaningful representation of life," says Alamo. "Metal sculpting is a fascination for me because the fire and heat of welding bring one of the most inanimate materials in the world to life." Even with so much room for exploration, Alamo says he is challenged by his chosen medium. "I consider myself an artist in constant evolution. Sometimes I find it hard to limit myself to one medium, so I experiment with many different materials to broaden my creative spectrum."
Alamo didn't aim to be an artist. He earned three college degrees in advertising, marketing and international business and established a career in sales and marketing. Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, he moved United States with his family in 1994. After working in corporate sales and marketing in Florida, Alamo helped his wife, Dr. Estela Alamo, open and operate a successful dental practice in Tampa, FL.
Alamo discovered his passion for art and taught himself the metalworking skills he needed to express himself through sculpture, an experience he describes as life-changing. "My main objective is to make my art pieces introduce themselves to the spectators and tell them a story," says Alamo. "Art is not meant to be seen," he explains. "It's meant to be felt. The more you move your observer, the better the artist you are." When asked what he hopes his audiences will gain from is art, Alamo says, "By the time observers leave my space, they do not leave behind a sculpture; they leave behind an experience."
