Townscape Products Limited Cardiff Airport CT Blocks Vehicle Defence

A major refurbishment at the airport to accommodate the increase in passenger traffic has also involved increased security measures. Part of this development has included a vehicle defence system supplied by Townscape Products.

2010-11-12
SUTTON-IN-ASHFIELD, UK, November 12, 2010 (Press-News.org) Cardiff's growing prosperity, including the arrival of the Ryder Cup competition at the Celtic Manor, faster access to the City of Cardiff and increased traffic, has meant an increase in the strategic importance of the airport to this cosmopolitan city and to the Welsh economy as a whole.
A major refurbishment at the airport to accommodate the increase in passenger traffic has also involved increased security measures. Part of this development has included a vehicle defence system at the perimeter between the Passenger Terminal and car park to prevent unwanted vehicle incursion.
Townscape's CT Block vehicle defence systems were chosen for this task:
Each block weighs in at 2.2 tonnes and is manufactured at Townscape's own UK factory. The product has been tested and approved to the PAS 68 standard.
The CT Blocks are manufactured from a unique reconstituted stone mix using selected aggregates. Additional quartz rich Cornish fines have been added to enhance the final finish of the exposed natural stone.
The CT Blocks combine the elements of form and function perfectly, presenting a strong visual deterrent as well as a stylish design feature.
The CT Blocks were easy and quick to install. No extensive groundworks are required (unlike a bollard option) so underlying services did not need to be re-routed and overall disruption was kept to a minimum.
The CT Block solution represented a considerable cost-saving over the alternative PAS 68 bollard option with lower cost per unit as well as lower installation costs.
Townscape's CT Blocks have been deployed elsewhere in numerous high profile facilities across the UK including airports, transport hubs, heritage sites, MOD facilities, police stations and other public buildings.
