MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, November 12, 2010 (Press-News.org) A team of young entrepreneurs have just announced the upcoming launch of their innovative "mobile treasure hunt" smartphone application in their home town of Melbourne, Australia, after successful U.S. trials earlier this year. The application is called DreamWalk and it allows people to hunt for and collect real treasure hidden around their city using the GPS built into their mobile phones.
Treasures are contributed to the DreamWalk map by advertisers, who use DreamWalk as a marketing platform to promote their businesses, brands and products in an interactive and entertaining way. Since March 1st, advertisers in the U.S. have placed over $72,000 worth of 'treasure' on the DreamWalk map, including items such as free burgers, french fries, gift cards, theatre tickets and T-shirts, just to name a few. "DreamWalk represents a win-win for consumers and advertisers alike" said Joseph Russell, co-founder and CEO of DreamWalk Pty. Ltd. a registered Australian company operating out of Melbourne.
Joseph, together with his brother Samuel Russell, founded DreamWalk in 2008 without any financial backing, when the mobile apps industry was in its infancy. After almost two years in development, the DreamWalk iPhone application was finally released to the American public on March 1st of this year. This initial trial focused on the cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and New York, and the response was far greater than Joe and Sam had expected. During the month long trial, over sixty five thousand iPhone users participated in the hunt. DreamWalk quickly reached the top 100 apps in the US, peaking at #63, ahead of the EBay and MySpace apps and was even featured by Apple.
"DreamWalk is a hit because it connects consumers and advertisers in such a unique way" says CTO Samuel Russell. "DreamWalk offers consumers a challenging and rewarding experience and our advertisers get to take advantage of that and interact with consumers in a way that was not previously possible"
With the Melbourne launch date set for December 3rd, the team at DreamWalk is now busy signing up brands and local businesses to be a part of the launch. Mr. Russell reports that they are currently planning hunts for over sixty five local brands and businesses, who have contributed almost $30,000 worth of 'treasure' so far. "We aim to have over $100,000 worth of treasure by December 3rd, but even half that will make for a pretty awesome user experience" says Russell.
Anyone with an iPhone or Android smartphone can download the DreamWalk application for free and start hunting for real treasures hidden all around Melbourne as of December 3rd. Businesses wishing to participate can also do so free of charge by signing up via the DreamWalk website at http://www.dreamwalk.com.au and filling out a simple form.
For more information, visit http://www.dreamwalk.com.au, or contact Samuel Russell on 0407 848 346.
