Orthotics Help Scottsdale Patients Provide Proper Support

Dr. Mark Forman, a podiatrist in Scottsdale, provides his patients with custom-made orthotics for optimal support.

2014-02-21
SCOTTSDALE, AZ, February 21, 2014 (Press-News.org) When a patient feels discomfort or pain while walking, it is important to visit Dr. Mark Forman, a podiatrist in Scottsdale, for proper diagnosis and treatment planning. Over time a person's feet may develop symptoms in which they may change shape or develop pain when walking. With custom orthotics, patients can find the support they need to protect their feet from pain.

Custom-made orthotics are available for Scottsdale patients and are medical devices that support and gently reposition the heel, arch, muscles, etc. These orthotics work to enable the structures of the foot to work together. Unlike over-the-counter shoe inserts, custom-orthotics are specifically made for each individual patient-built from the molds of his or her feet. With custom-made orthotics in Scottsdale from Dr. Mark Forman, patients can find relief from many different types of foot pain including heel pain, arch

"As you walk, your heel tends to slightly swing from side to side, which is normal, but if your heel swings too far, your foot may be over-pronating, or flattening too much. If this happens, we will provide careful evaluation of your symptoms. In some cases, all you may need are custom-made orthotics," said Scottsdale podiatrist, Dr. Mark Forman.

With orthotics, Scottsdale patients can experience more comfort while standing, walking and running because it helps to alter the angles at which the foot strikes the surface. Dr. Forman can prescribe orthotics for a patient as a conservative approach to many foot ailments or simply as a method of control after foot surgery. There are three different types of orthotics available:

Rigid Orthotics - With this type of orthotic, the material used tends to be firm such as plastic or carbon fiber. The primary use of rigid orthotics is for walking or to wear in dress shoes.

Soft Orthotics - Soft orthotics help to absorb shock, increase balance and take pressure off of uncomfortable or sore spots in your feet. Typically constructed of soft, compressible materials, soft orthotics can be molded by the action of the foot by walking or formed over an impression of a patient's foot.

Semi-rigid Orthotics - This last type of orthotics provides for extreme balance of the foot while walking or participating in sports, significantly aiding in an athlete's performance.

Patients who are exhibiting foot pain or instability should visit Dr. Mark Forma, Scottsdale, AZ podiatrist, for proper diagnosis. After evaluation of a patient's foot, Dr. Forman can determine the best treatment available in Scottsdale, including orthotics. With the availability of custom-made orthotics from Dr. Mark Forman, patients can find relief from their chronic foot pain through the support of the bone structures of the feet.
