Madison Set To Become The Home Of National Gymnastics Competition

First annual competition invites teams from across the country to Wisconsin's capital city

MADISON, WI, February 21, 2014

March 8th Madison will be receiving gymnasts from around the Midwest in the first annual competition offered in Wisconsin's capital city in over 20 years. Being the home to several respectable gymnastics training centers, as well as a centrally located city in the state, Madison is an ideal choice for host gym Gymfinity Gymnastics, out of Fitchburg, to host a national invitational. Meet Director J. Orkowski believes that this inaugural run will be the start of a competition tradition for many years that will identify Madison as a hub for gymnastics competition in the US.

Says Orkowski "There are 8 different gymnastics training centers located in the Madison area that serve over 5 thousand young athletes. 4 of them have produced national competitors and one has even produced an Olympic gymnast: Maria Hosely in 1952. It's been a long time coming but Madison is posed to be a great host city for gymnastics competition."

On March 8th over 180 gymnasts will represent their home gyms and compete in the USA-Gymnastics sanctioned event. Gymfinity Gymnastics will be operating the event as the local representative program. Gymnastics is divided into 10 Junior Olympic levels with competition starting at Level 2. The competition will include gymnasts from beginner levels of competition up through Level 10. The event is hosted at the Monona Terrace and will 4 different sessions of competition beginning at 8AM.

Mari Schroeder, a Level 10 gymnast at Gymfinity and an 18 year old graduating senior, tells us "I've waited my whole life for a chance to compete in my home town. I glad I get the chance before I go to college." Gymfinity has hosted smaller competition for lower level gymnasts for 14 years and even played host to the 2008 state championship, but this is first time they are hosting a higher level national invitational competition. "First time," says Orkowski, "but many many years to come."
