BOSTON, MA, February 25, 2014 (Press-News.org) Artware, Inc. announced today that their popular multilayer photo editing app, Layrs - has reached and surpassed 1 million downloads in the six months since the app's launch in July, 2013. This news comes at the same time as a substantial update to the app which improves the app's multilayering abilities and adds to the editing toolbox and filter selection.
Layrs [Photo & Video -- FREE], is the first truly multilayer photo editing application for the iPhone that allows users to edit mobile photos with the same results as if they were editing on a computer, using an advanced/professional photo editing program. The highlight of the app is a proprietary "intelligent masking" technology, which allows users to extract portions of their photo for editing by touching and moving their finger over the object/area they wish to edit. Intelligent masking automatically senses the boundaries of the object the user wishes to extract - as opposed to most photo editing apps, where the user must "paint in" an object and use an eraser to clear up edges with no intelligence from the app. Further with Layrs, the user can adjust the borders of the extraction by zooming in on the object or by extending the mask beyond the edge of the app and swiping it back. This allows users to clean up uneven edges and allows the app to "learn," thus improving functionality with each use.
Upon release, Layrs was highlighted by Apple in the #1 position in "New & Noteworthy" and gained #1 position in the "Photo & Video" category of the iOS app store. Since hard launch on July 18, 2013, Layrs has averaged 200,000 downloads per month, making it one of the most popular new apps for 2013.
Layrs v4 allows users to edit an unlimited number of layers within a photo, where the previous version only allowed foreground and background edits. Such high-end capability has never before been available on a mobile device, especially with the expansive editing features that Layrs provides. Users can now choose multiple objects from one or several photos, extract each one and create a new photo using all the different elements. Alternatively, a user can edit several sections of a single photo separately. The new release also features a new suite of photo filters - from subtle to outrageous effects - and a toolbox of other editing options.
"This is a pivotal release for us," says Moti Kintzlinger, co-founder and CEO of Artware, Inc. "While we have added significant enhancements and editing tools to the app, we've also kept Layrs intuitive and simple to use. This release provides users professional features and ease of use not previously seen in mobile photo editors. The beauty of Layrs is that it flattens the hierarchy of photo editing -- apps like Photoshop Express can be too complicated for hobbyist photographers, while apps like Hipstamatic don't provide the functionality that more advanced/professional photographers are looking for. Our app combines ease of function with amazing features to provide a photo editing experience that is great for both professionals and amateurs. Layrs has raised the bar for mobile photo editing and we're delighted to share the updated app with the public."
