NYC Vegetarian Food Festival to Showcase Speakers in the Raw

Two raw food proponents will be among those delivering the raw truth (as they see it) at the 4th annual New York City Vegetarian Food Festival, throughout the first weekend of March in Manhattan.

2014-02-27
NEW YORK, NY, February 27, 2014 (Press-News.org) Two raw food proponents will be among those delivering the raw truth (as they see it) at the 4th annual New York City Vegetarian Food Festival, throughout the first weekend of March in Manhattan.

Steve Meyerowitz, who styles himself as the Sproutman, will speak on Saturday morning, March 1. His talk is entitled "Clean Out, Lighten Up, Feel Great."

A sought-after speaker on health and raw diets, Meyerowitz is one of the world's leading proponents of juicing, fasting, wheatgrass, indoor gardening, and pure water. His books include Sprouts: the Miracle Food, Sproutman's Kitchen Garden Cookbook, and Wheatgrass: Nature's Finest Medicine.

Meyerwitz said his message is particularly appropriate as spring approaches. "You clean your car, you clean the yard, and you clean your house--now it's time to clean your inner house!" he said. "Your body is an amazing machine. But like anything else, it gets clogged! As a society we stuff ourselves every day, all day. Too often it's with things that come from a box, a can, or plastic--things that really don't belong in a healthy body. Let's take a week to do some inner spring cleaning."

Another raw food author and speaker, Karen Ranzi, will appear at the Festival on Sunday afternoon, March 2. Her presentation is entitled "Nourishing Ourselves, Nourishing Our Families with Raw Vegan Foods."

A raw vegan since 1994, Ranzi wrote her groundbreaking book, Creating Healthy Children Through Attachment Parenting and Raw Foods in 2010. Her new book is called Raw Vegan Recipe Fun for Families: 115 Easy Recipes and Health Tips for Energetic Living.

In addition to writing and speaking around the country, Ranzi is a speech therapist, raw food coach, and chef. Similar to Meyerwitz, she equates a raw lifestyle with sprucing oneself up. "It's time to clean the blood, rejuvenate the body, and clear your mind!" she said.

Other presenters at the Festival will include cardiologists Dr. Robert Ostfeld and Dr. Joel Kahn, Vedge Restaurant founders Richard Landau and Kate Jacoby, nutritionist Ashley Koff, and Vegan Radiance blogger Lauren Walls. Approximately 100 vendors will be showing and sampling their wares, including Vega, Nutiva, Cedar's Mediterranean Foods, and Rescue Chocolate. There will also be musical entertainment, children's activities, and a raffle benefiting the New York Coalition for Healthy School Food.

The NYC Vegetarian Food Festival will take place 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues). Tickets can be purchased in advance at https://2014nycvegfoodfest.chirrpy.com/ or at the door. For further information, visit http://nycvegfoodfest.com/.
