A San Francisco Start-up, SynerGI, Introduces a Breakthrough New Product, The Colon Vitamin, with Ingredients Shown to Prevent the Formation of Polyps
2014-02-28
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, February 28, 2014 (Press-News.org) To coincide with the Colon Cancer Awareness month of March, SynerGI, Inc. launches The Colon Vitamin, a dietary supplement to promote optimal colon health. The Colon Vitamin was developed by Dr. Frank Farrell, a board-certified gastroenterologist committed to colon cancer prevention. The Colon Vitamin contains micronutrients and antioxidants shown in scientific studies to prevent the formation of polyps or reduce the risk of colon cancer. Taken in two tablets, the first targets the small intestine, and the second targets the colon, where a breakthrough patent-pending delivery mechanism releases calcium. The calcium, at a carefully calibrated pH level, binds with fatty acids and bile acids, which may inhibit polyp formation. This unique delivery system is key to providing calcium directly to the colon, bypassing the stomach and small intestine. See video on how it works.

"I developed The Colon Vitamin in response to queries from my patients," shared Dr. Farrell. "After a colonoscopy, many asked what they could do to prevent the formation of polyps. I would recommend a high-fiber diet, exercise, and various micronutrients like calcium and vitamin D. It occurred to me to look into providing a product that contained the appropriate micronutrients and antioxidants. Further research led me to developing the unique delivery mechanism for calcium." See video.

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States for men and women combined, and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among non-smokers. It is also the most preventable cancer. In 2014, the American Cancer Society expects 50,310 deaths from colorectal cancer, and estimates 96,830 new cases of colon cancer and 40,000 new cases of rectal cancer. The lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer is about 1 in 20, or 5%.

Colonoscopy helps identify colorectal cancer at early stages when it is at its easiest and least expensive stage to treat and when the possibility of cure is the greatest.

It is the primary method of detecting and removing precancerous polyps (abnormal growths in the lining of the colon), and thus eliminating the possibility that they progress to cancer. To encourage more people to get screened, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is removing cost barriers to individuals by requiring private health insurers to cover colonoscopy screenings without any patient cost-sharing, such as copays and deductibles. Regular colonoscopies can also help decrease the $12.2 billion spent each year in the U.S. on colorectal cancer treatment (annual cost for advanced cases exceed $300,000).

"Colon cancer is preventable and taking a proactive approach to colon health is something we all can do every day to reduce our risk," said Eric Hargis, CEO, Colon Cancer Alliance. "It is important that everyone over the age of 50 and those who are younger with risk factors get screened."

To complement these vital regular screenings, consumers can take The Colon Vitamin which is widely available and reasonably-priced. The Colon Vitamin's micronutrients and antioxidants have been shown to prevent the formation of polyps or reduce the risk of cancer. Each ingredient is backed by scientific research, and includes beta-carotene, Vitamin D, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, folic acid (folate), calcium, selenium, and curcumin from the superfood turmeric.

The Colon Vitamin is for everyone who is concerned about their colon health, has a history of colon polyps, or has a family history of colon polyps or cancer. People with these risk factors may also benefit from The Colon Vitamin :

- anyone over 50 (9 out of 10 diagnosed with colorectal cancer is at least 50)
- African Americans (highest colorectal cancer incidence of all racial groups in U.S.)
- Jews of Eastern European descent
- people with Type 2 diabetes

"We can no longer await on a cure for colon cancer; prevention is the key," explained Georgia Hurst, Founder of ihavelynchsyndrome.com. "The Colon Vitamin is one in the constellation of factors that could help improve colon health."

In a recent survey, 94% of gastroenterologists would recommend a supplement with the ingredients contained in The Colon Vitamin to their patients with a history of colon polyps. A vast majority felt it was important that such a vitamin supplement be developed with sound scientific backing. Samples of The Colon Vitamin are available at Endoscopy Centers and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) where colonoscopies are performed.

The Colon Vitamin is sold online at TheColonVitamin.com, Amazon, and at pharmacies and drugstores.
