Cynthia Knott Honored for Her Hard Work in Honing Her Craft
2014-03-03
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC, March 3, 2014 (Press-News.org) Artist Cynthia Knott was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Branding. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

A renowned seascape artist, Ms. Knott is drawn to the effects of light on water and surrounding atmosphere. She was given the title of horizonologist by Poet Laureate Billy Collins, referring to her skillful depiction of horizon lines in her work. "When I saw [the horizon line for] the first time, I saw white, and this beautiful Naples yellow with the sun shining on it," says Ms. Knott. "That's where my gold horizon line came from." Ms. Knott works to recreate the natural beauty of the sea in her art work. As the great-granddaughter of an Irish sea captain, Ms. Knott feels that her attraction to the sea runs in her family. Further strengthening her ties to the sea is her series "Migration," which she made to commemorate her family's seaward migration from Ireland to the United States.

Ms. Knott has 30 years of experience as an acclaimed artist. She specializes in encaustic painting, which utilizes a mixture that is comprised of beeswax, linseed oil, damar varnish, and metallic pigments, to create a luminous effect on canvas. This technique is crucial for capturing the shimmering effect on the surface of the water. Ms. Knott focuses her work on the majesty of seascapes, encapsulating elements such as water, light, weather and color into a comprehensive whole that showcases the breathtaking effect of the sea. According to Grace Glueck of "The New York Times," "The results [of Ms. Knott's work] border on the symphonic, involving sky, sea, sun, clouds and horizon line without the slightest trace of land, in passages that range from serene to explosive."

Ms. Knott has enjoyed great success as an artist, having been featured in numerous galleries and exhibitions. "My greatest moment in [the] art world was walking off the elevator into the Tibor D'Nagy Gallery for my first solo exhibition," says Ms. Knott. She considers the highlight of her career to be seeing her first review in "The New York Times," which was written by Grace Gluck. Ms. Knott now lives in South Carolina, where she spends time painting the famous lowcountry and its waterways.

Ms. Knott received a Master of Fine Arts from New York University in 1989. She is a member of the Alumni Association of New York University, as well as the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, and she is a two-time recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Award. In years to come, Ms. Knott plans to teach art classes and pass on the skills that she has learned. Her work is currently collected internationally, and her pieces have been purchased by such notables as Sir Patrick Stewart, Mercedes Ruehl, and Candace Bergen. Since 2013, Ms. Knott's work has been featured at the DC Moore Gallery in New York, which can be found at http://www.dcmooregallery.com.
