NEWARK, DE, March 09, 2014 (Press-News.org) TheGeekParent has just launched http://www.thegeekparent.com, a community and podcast talk show devoted to technology, electronic entertainment, video games, mobile apps, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Mathematics) Education.
TheGeekParent educates, entertains, and connects parents with smart nerdy children in this new digital age. TheGeekParent features board games, video games, mobile entertainment, and social media advice to help parents make better decisions and more options in digital parenting, Tech Education, and game ratings.
TheGeekParent was created by Kat Mahoney, Executive Editor, Digital Educator, Tech & Video Game Industry Journalist, and Author of "A Savvy Mom's Guide to Parenting Generation Z".
"I've been in the industry for over a decade now and as a mom to three brilliant nerds, two of which are Autistic, I can relate to parenting in this generation. I know that parents fear what they don't understand." said Mahoney, Executive Editor and Owner of TheGeekParent. "Raising a family in this generation takes more time and moderation than most eras because we, as parents, are competing against the preliminary stages of artificial intelligence for the attention of our children. Between moderation and education, technology has helped my own children become brilliant students that are academically way above their peers, while assisting students with special needs in ways that would have taken years to progress in ."
Mahoney goes on to express that this new generation can still learn to appreciate family values when parents get involved on a daily basis. "Parents can mix entertainment. Board games and puzzles are still exceptionally brilliant methods of learning and entertainment, while electronic entertainment and video games can have a substantially positive impact on mental focus, hand+eye coordination, and team work."
TheGeekParent focuses on a mix of both types of family entertainment while teaching parents how to positively co-existing with your digital child. It includes articles, resources, comics, game ratings, and eventually interactive assignments and tools to help parents and educators with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Education events and projects.
TheGeekParent can also connect you with digital educators in your area to be a guest speaker at your school, company, or organization to discuss any of the following:
video games and ESRB ratings
cyber bullying and prevention
internet safety and security
social media and digital apps
connecting with your child in the digital age
technology in education
networking opportunities
transitioning to a TechEd School
TheGeekParent's goals are to be a portal of entertainment, resources, and rating reviews for tech education, mobile apps, video games, and board games.
