CARY, NC - Kim Lewey, President of National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Greater Raleigh, announced that NAWBO will present Profit in Non-Profit: Grow Your Community, Grow Your Business at the April 23, 2014 Greater Raleigh NAWBO luncheon. The event, held by event sponsor, Lana Calloway, President and CEO of Exhibit Resources, will be on April 23, 2014 from 11:00am - 2:00pm, with registration and networking opening at 10:30am, at Exhibit Resources, 7521 Exhibit Ct., Raleigh, NC. The cost is $35 when you register by April 18, 2014 at http://www.nawbo-raleigh.org, or $50 at the door.
CJ Scarlet, Chief Innovator and CEO of 10 for Humanity and Billie Redmond, CEO of TradeMark Properties will lead an engaging discussion on ways volunteerism can bolster your business growth and opportunities for business owners to give back to their community. CJ Scarlet is a former roller-skating carhop and U.S. Marine, an award-winning writer, motivational speaker, entrepreneur and a self-admitted emerging technology geek. Also named one of the "Happy 100" people on the planet, she is featured in the best-selling books Happy For No Reason and Be Invisible. She also holds an interdisciplinary master's degree with an emphasis on Human Violence.
In 2008, she founded The Healing Tree Foundation to meet the dire needs of the child and adult victims of abuse and neglect by teaching them alternatives to violence and the healing power of kindness. On World Kindness Day in November 2008, CJ launched the Kindness Cure Campaign, a project committed to getting people to perform one million acts of kindness in one year.
Billie Redmond, a native North Carolinian who grew up in the small textile town of Eden, received the 2011 Triangle Business Journal Legacy Award, which recognizes leaders who have helped shape the Triangle through their business and community endeavors. She received the TCREW Impact Award, and was the first woman to receive the prestigious award. In 2006, Billie was named Realtor of the Year by the Triangle Business Journal's Women in Business Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award for Women in Business in 2008. She is named on the Business Leader Impact list and has been named Tar Heel of the Week by the News and Observer, as well as being recognized as one of the Business Leader Magazine's Women Extraordinaire. In 2005, Billie was inducted into the YWCA's Academy of Women for her efforts to empower women and eliminate racism.
In May 2011 Billie completed 10 years of service with WakeMed Health and Hospitals Board of Directors, the last two as Chair. She serves on the Board of Directors of Paragon Commercial Bank, the Carolina Hurricanes Kid's n Community Foundation Board, the Board and Executive Committee of the North Carolina Chamber, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina. Currently, she is serving on the Ripple Effect campaign for Wake Tech Community College.
"This event will leave participants with a better understanding of how to connect with community agencies and non-profits in ways that can help them grow their businesses," says Lewey. "They will also learn how to leverage relationships with these organizations for marketing purposes, and representatives from the organizations will be available to discuss volunteer, sponsorship and networking opportunities."
