NEW YORK, NY, March 11, 2014 (Press-News.org) NASA will bring together 50 social media users to Kennedy Space Center for a two-day event, Mar. 15 - 16, 2014, for the launch of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
Brooklyn native, Myeashea Alexander has been selected as one of 50 social media representatives to attend the event. The cargo resupply flight to the International Space Station by Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) is targeted to liftoff at 4:41 a.m. EST Mar. 16.
As a NASA Social attendee, Alexander and the other 49 participants will interact with engineers and scientists from NASA and SpaceX, meet other space and science enthusiasts as well as tour the Kennedy Space Center Complex. If all goes as scheduled, participants will also view the spacecraft launch.
Attendees were selected based on a number of factors, including active use of multiple social networking platforms and tools to disseminate information to a unique audience, regularly producing new content that features multimedia elements, and being highly visible, respected and widely recognized.
"I was shocked and honored to receive the invite" Alexander said. "This is an incredible opportunity, because I have the chance to share, engage, and introduce the work and importance of NASA in a meaningful and personal way. This is what the 'Rockstar Anthro' is all about."
Alexander is a physical anthropology grad student at CUNY Hunter in NYC with a background in culture and media. A few months ago, she started a blog, http://www.therockstaranthropologist.com, with the mission to include non-academics and the public in conversations and issues ranging from technology to globalization to mummification. She quickly expanded her engagement onto several social media platforms, and although her following is still small, her conversational and relatable approach to science and social science topics is rapidly gaining attention within the science and social media community. Alexander will be live tweeting from @RockstarAnthro.
NASA Social participants are traveling from across the United States to attend.
Participants will be using #NASASocial in their updates while tweeting. Information about NASA Social can be viewed on
