LADV Foundation Launches Forward With Gala and Fashion Show

LADV Foundation launches forward with Gala, Silent Auction and Fashion Show. Cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and decadent desserts will be served. Live entertainment is on the menu!

2014-03-18
FAIRFAX, VA, March 18, 2014 (Press-News.org) April 25, 2014 starting at 6:30pm/EST, Life After Domestic Violence (LADV), an organization created to help domestic abuse survivors, is hosting its official launch event. Aptly titled "Phoenix Rising", the event will be held at TriVision Studios. Founded by Apoorva McIntosh, LADV's purpose is to 'rebuild the [abused] person by providing her the tools to build her self-esteem and self-confidence so that she can develop healthy relationships and heal from the trauma.'

A fashion show, silent auction, live entertainment, drinks and food will be served at the launch. EventStagers, a premiere event planning and staging company, is planning and staging the entire gala. At "Phoenix Rising", Apoorva, an accomplished fashion designer, model and a life coach, will showcase her new fashion collection; proceeds will go to support LADV.

Apoorva McIntosh started LADV after experiencing life threatening domestic violence herself and finding a way out. She explains that, "I saw a tremendous need for it. I came across countless women who were abused or who witnessed abuse. After getting to know them, I saw that they were still hurting within. Most of them were dealing with one thing or another - depression, anxiety, eating disorders, various addictions, co- dependency, denial, attraction to one abusive relationship after another or children following in their footsteps by walking into dangerous relationships or resorting to drugs."

She continues, "I decided to do something about it. I brought together a great team of advisors and committee members, who also saw the need for our work, and combined this with my deep desire to help the survivors of abuse. These advisors and committee members helped me bring LADV Foundation to life."

A domestic violence survivor herself, Apoorva once lived in a shelter. When speaking about the April 25 LADV gala launch where she will showcase designs from her personal collection, Apoorva shared that, "While living in a domestic violence shelter, I never thought I would be able to design clothes again."

"Phoenix Rising" will begin with a splash of colors representing happiness, joy, excitement and victory. The event will move into off-white, then white to represent peace. The event begins at 6pm; the fashion show starts at 7:15pm. TriVision Studios, located at 3856 Dulles South Court in Chantilly, Virginia, is a major sponsor of the event. General admission is $75. A front and center seat at the fashion show is $145. Seating is very limited. Tickets may be purchased online at http://bit.ly/LADVgalafashionshow

U.S. Supreme Court: No drug dog on private property without warrant

2014-03-18
Law enforcement agencies often employ the use of canine drug sniffers to detect the presence of illegal narcotics. People in Detroit may see these four-legged officers in action during traffic stops and even at airports. Many dogs are taught to alert officers that there is cocaine, marijuana, heroin or other illegal drugs nearby through a passive act like sitting. Recently, two men from Detroit pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges, according to WSAZ. The men were stopped in Ohio for speeding and their behavior raised the suspicion of officers. As a result, a drug ...

The severity of injury to the baby's brain, and resulting neurological impairments, depends on the length of time the newborn was deprived of oxygen. Babies who experienced extended periods without oxygen during birth may need 24-hour care and extended long-term treatment. The reason for ...
