As a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Phillips attended the prestigious Tulane University Undergraduate and Medical School graduating with honors in 1982. While attending Tulane, Dr. Phillips was awarded the Gold Tip Stethoscope award for the most outstanding student in Medicine. After Tulane Medical School, Dr. Phillips trained for four intensive years as a resident in Internal Medicine and Dermatology. He completed his residency in 1986 and was appointed clinical Professor of Dermatology that same year. In 1986, he obtained a lifetime Board Certification in Dermatology but in an effort to be even more proficient and up to date in the field of dermatology, Dr. Phillips retook the board and was subsequently re-certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 2009 scoring in the top 10% of the nation.
