NORWALK, CT, March 26, 2014 (Press-News.org) Many people attend loud concerts and often experience a slight ringing in their ears after being in a loud venue. When this happens, a patient might be experiencing symptoms of tinnitus. This condition is noise or ringing in the ears that is caused by exposure to loud noises, medication and other sources. When residents of Norwalk and Westport experience tinnitus, Dr. Andrew Parker invites him or her to visit his office for proper diagnosis and treatment options.
"Tinnitus isn't usually a sign of anything serious. Treating an identified, underlying cause sometimes helps, while other treatments might reduce or mask the noise, making tinnitus less noticeable. It is important to visit my office for proper examination and evaluation so that I can create a proper treatment plan for your individual condition," said Dr. Andrew Parker in Westport about tinnitus.
Treatment will be different with each case of tinnitus, making it vital to visit Dr. Andrew Parker for an examination. To treat tinnitus, Westport ENT doctor, Dr. Parker will first try to identify any underlying, treatable condition that may be associated with a patient's symptoms. If tinnitus is due to a health condition, Dr. Parker may be able to take steps that could reduce the noise. This would include earwax removal, treating a blood vessel condition and changing medication.
Norwalk residents might benefit from hearing aids, as they may help reduce the ringing in their ears while wearing them and sometimes cause the noise to temporarily go away. Tinnitus maskers can also be combined with hearing aids to help lessen the effects. These maskers emit a competitive, but pleasant sound that can distract a person from head noise. Some people find that a tinnitus masker may suppress head noise for several hours aver use, but it is not the result for everyone.
Patients should make an appointment to see Dr. Andrew Parker if they develop tinnitus after an upper respiratory infection, such as a cold, and the tinnitus doesn't improve within a week. If a patient in Westport or Norwalk does develop tinnitus that occurs suddenly or without an apparent cause, or if they have hearing loss or dizziness with the tinnitus, Dr. Parker should be consulted immediately for a consultation.
