Gastroenterologist In Scottsdale Raises Awareness For Irritable Bowel Syndrome During The Month Of April

April is Irritable Bowel Syndrome Awareness Month and, Scottsdale gastroenterologist, Dr. Andrew Weinberg takes this time to education his patients.

2014-03-26
SCOTTSDALE, AZ, March 26, 2014 (Press-News.org) During the month of April, gastroenterologist in Scottsdale, Dr. Andrew Weinberg, is raising awareness for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). IBS is a chronic disorder of the intestines that can cause abdominal pain, cramping, bloating, diarrhea and constipation. While these symptoms are uncomfortable, IBS does not cause permanent damage to the colon, nor does it lead to serious diseases.

Dr. Weinberg takes the time to educate his patients during April's Irritable Bowel Syndrome Awareness month. And while awareness is important year round, Dr. Weinberg utilizes April as a month to raise further awareness among his patients because IBS affects approximately 35 million people in the United States, with women being 2-3 times more likely to be diagnosed. Even more so, many people continue to be undiagnosed and unaware that their symptoms indicate a medical disorder.

"If you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome you are not alone, as it is common worldwide. However, people still continue to go undiagnosed, which can cause complications throughout your life. I encourage everyone to visit my office for further diagnosis so that you can live without the complications caused by IBS," said Dr. Andrew Weinberg, a gastroenterologist in Scottsdale.

Many patients with IBS report that changes in their diet and lifestyle can greatly improve their symptoms. Dr. Weinberg recommends that his patients avoid foods that might trigger symptoms, get regular exercise and manage their stress levels-all of these factors can contribute to symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Medications are also available to ease pain and irregularity, but it is important for patients to schedule an appointment with Dr. Andrew Weinberg before taking any medications.

Patients in Scottsdale might need a colonoscopy to determine if it is irritable bowel syndrome, or another complication. Dr. Weinberg is available to perform a colonoscopy for further diagnosis, while also offering other helpful information to combat symptoms of IBS. For more information on irritable bowel syndrome awareness month during April, Dr. Weinberg encourages his patients to visit his website at http://www.weinberggi.com/ or by calling Weinberg Gastrointestinal at (480) 745-3690 to set up an appointment.

Dr. Weinberg is dual board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
