dinCloud Partners with ThreatSTOP to Augment Security Protection for Customers

IP Reputation Management Service Automatically Blocks Inbound and Outbound Criminal Malware

2014-03-28
LOS ANGLES, CA, March 28, 2014 (Press-News.org) dinCloud, a cloud services provider that helps businesses rapidly migrate to the cloud through business provisioning, today announced that it has partnered with ThreatSTOP, a leading provider of real-time IP reputation (IPR) management services, to provide its customers with a dynamic, 24/7 threat source detection and blocking service against criminal malware.

A cloud-based protection service, ThreatSTOP automatically identifies and builds a barrier against known criminal malware including: botnets, Trojans, worms, zero day threats, and Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs). ThreatSTOP prevents them from communicating to and from a company's network. A block list containing IP addresses of the infrastructure behind criminal malware is delivered directly to the company's routers, where it is enforced. As a result, ThreatSTOP protects the entire cloud and blocks threats before they reach the dedicated virtual firewalls used for each customer's virtual private data center, which is hosting servers, desktops, and storage within the cloud. This turnkey solution allows dinCloud to identify malicious attacks or vulnerabilities and immediately remediates all issues. Currently, ThreatSTOP repels over 40,000 attacks per day at dinCloud, with zero false positives.

"Cloud users no longer need to be tied to a specific location in order to access their data, but that also means criminals have ease of access too. In multi-tenant environments, one bad apple can ruin the bunch," said Tom Byrnes, CEO, ThreatSTOP. "Since its inception, dinCloud has kept security at the forefront of the design and development of its solutions, offering extremely robust security practices and policies with multiple layers of security (physical, network and virtual). Integrating ThreatSTOP will even further enhance dinCloud's offerings and the security around them, making their hosted virtual desktop one of the most secure cloud offerings today."

Integrating ThreatSTOP with dinCloud means all malicious attacks are stopped at the edge of dinCloud's cloud, and any malware that makes it into the client's cloud (through, for example, a client's USB drive or laptop used for maintenance) is isolated, unable to "call home", and can be remediated. This prevents critical data from leaving the customer's network and further enhances the overall security protection that dinCloud provides its customers.

Benefits of ThreatSTOP in dinCloud's Hosted Virtual Desktop (HVD) offering include:

• Prevention of data theft by blocking the "call home" to command and control hosts
• Minimizes zero-day attacks and network attack surface
• Eliminates APTs
• Optimizes bandwidth by filtering bad traffic, increasing network performance by 10-25% and thereby reducing the need for additional network bandwidth
• Eliminates administrative overhead of manual blacklisting
• Forensics reporting tool pinpoints exactly where the system has been impacted
• Database is refreshed every two hours to eliminate false positives
• Works with a company's existing network architecture - no additional hardware or software to install and maintain

"Anyone using the Internet faces an ever increasing surge of criminal activity, where the stakes are your personal data, information, and identity. At dinCloud, security has always been top of mind and unlike other cloud service providers, we felt a moral obligation to protect our customers unequivocally, without making it an upsell," said Mike Chase, CTO, dinCloud. "We work hard to encrypt, isolate, protect, and manage our cloud to enhance the end user experience, and ThreatSTOP is a perfect addition to dinCloud's defense strategy. Additionally, higher security will open the door for more sales opportunities in law firms, healthcare providers, government, and other security-conscious entities for our resellers."

ThreatSTOP's proactive approach to IPR management means that the system doesn't just stop the "call home" that identifies the malware, but in many cases, also stops the infection. A reporting tool identifies which internal devices on the network have been affected so the user can choose to address the issue(s) directly, or work with a dinCloud reseller who can do the remediation, or provide the necessary IT support if they do not have the expertise in-house.

dinCloud's offerings can be purchased direct or through its extensive reseller channel. For more information, visit http://www.dincloud.com or https://shop.dincloud.com/.

The researchers found that truck drivers who were behind the wheel from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. were three times more likely to be involved in a motor vehicle accident than those who were driving between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The lead author of the study noted that ...
