Grand Canyon Tours Now Offering 1-Day Rafting Tours for Spring 2014

These Grand Canyon rafting day trips feature no white water rapids and are ideal for families and kids as young as 4 years of age.

2014-03-31
LAS VEGAS, NV, March 31, 2014 (Press-News.org) The Grand Canyon rafting season is in full swing and among the most popular trips getting underway this year are 1-day float tours down the Colorado River.

"Smooth-water rafting is one of the most popular activities offered this time of the year," said Keith Kravitz, owner of Grand Canyon 123, a leading provider of National Park tours and information. "But hurry as these trips have a tendency to sell out."

These particular float tours depart once a day in the morning from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and there are two kinds available that seem to appeal to travelers the most.

The one dubbed the "basic" is a bus/raft package while the "deluxe" is one that comes with an airplane ride, jeep ride and rafting. "Both of these packages are an exceptional value for groups, families and friends," Kravitz said.

The trips start off from Grand Canyon Airport in the town of Tusayan, AZ, which is situated 10 minutes from Grand Canyon Village where all the lodges are including Maswick Lodge.

The bus version goes to Page, AZ, before detouring to Glen Canyon Dam where all pontoon rafts are docked. The airplane/deluxe trip flies into Page, AZ, where traveler's transfer to a Jeep for a tour of famed Antelope Canyon. Then it's overland to the base of the Dam where the rafts are docked.

The float itself features no white water rapids and this is why kids as young as four years of age are welcome on these tours. Further, both trips include multiple pull outs on the Colorado Rive where travelers can eat lunch, swim and hike to see ancient Indian rock art.

"Float tours are designed for travlers who want a day trip without rapids," Kravitz noted. "The next level are multi-day white water rafting trips that costs thousands of dollars and require real planning."

The total distance of the float is 15 miles from Glen Canyon Dam to historic Lee's Ferry and total time for both tours is approximately 12.5 hours. "The sights on this cruise are spectacular," Kravitz noted. "Horseshoe Bend is the highlight but there are a ton more that get lots of praise."

Travelers are recommended to dress for outdoor conditions. Kravitz recommends packing sun block, a brimmed hat, a lightweight long-sleeved cotton shirt and sunglasses. "Bring or wear a swimsuit and try to wear river sandals as this is a trip where visitors will want to cool off in the refreshing waters of the Colorado."

There's also a 1-day float for Las Vegas travelers, too. This particular one includes a helicopter to the bottom of the West Rim followed by an 11-mile float from the base of Hoover Dam to Willow Beach. "This is a fantastic adventure and a great way to spend a day off from The Strip," Kravitz noted. "Moreover, there's just something special about departing by boat from the base of Hoover."
