Zoellner Whole Financial Teams Up with Baker Tilly to Educate Advisors on the Importance of Tax Planning

Zoellner Whole Financial sponsored an informational seminar about taxes for independent advisors in the area.

SOUTHFIELD, MI, April 02, 2014

David Zoellner, founder of Zoellner Whole Financial believes that in order to be an effective financial advisor, you have to understand how taxes can affect clients. Zoellner, partnered with local tax specialists at Baker Tilly to host a seminar designed to educate advisors on the impact of the sale and capital gains for Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) at the Skyline Club in Southfield, Mich.

"Before advisors recommend revenue generating investment products, they need to have a basic understanding of how that income can impact their client's taxes," explained Zoellner. "Advisors aren't tax professionals so they, and their clients, should build relationships and consult with CPAs in their area so they can recommend investment strategies that don't leave their clients feeling the pinch at tax time."

Speakers for the seminar included Sean Sant, Partner and Head of the High Net Worth Group for and Matthew Howard, REIT Tax Specialist, both with Baker Tilly. Their presentations focused on the potential tax ramification of the sale and capital gain of REITs.

Art Malison of MALL Malison & Cooney P.C. and Michael Tepper, Vice President of Sales for Financial Advisory Associates, a partner of Capitas Financial, also participated in the seminar and answered questions from advisors in the audience.

"This seminar gave the advisors a source for tax advice through Baker Tilly and provided an open forum for them to learn and ask questions. Ultimately, we all want to do what's in the best interest of our clients and learning how revenue generated from REITs can impact our clients helps us recommend a better investment strategy," commented Zoellner.
