NORWICH, CT, April 3, 2014 (Press-News.org) Jennifer E. McGann, Certified Professional Coder and Volunteer at The William W. Backus Hospital, has been recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in medical billing and coding.
For Ms. McGann, a career in medical coding is a chance to make a difference in the lives of others. She currently volunteers her time at William W. Backus Hospital, where she is responsible for ensuring quality control of scanned medical records for documentation requirements, legibility and proper filing. She also assists with spreadsheets and reviews physician orders. Ms. McGann is noted for her expertise in medical coding, electronic medical records, and health care management. In recognition of her exceptional work, the hospital has honored Ms. McGann with a she earned a Silver Bar Award for 500 cumulative volunteer hours, followed by a Gold Bar Award for 1,000 volunteer hours.
Prior to pursuing this line of work, Ms. McGann worked in document management within the litigation support industry. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Regis College in 1994, and went on to study library and information science at Simmons College. Later in her career, Ms. McGann became a coding apprentice after graduating from Ridley-Lowell Business and Technical Institute as a certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist in 2009. In 2012, she became a Certified Professional Coder through the American Academy of Professional Coders. She recently earned certification in health services management through DeVry University's Keller School of Management. Ms. McGann remains current in her field through affiliation with American Health Information Management Association, and as president of her local chapter of the American Association of Professional Coders.
Ms. McGann has received a number of formal recognitions for her work beyond those earned from William W. Backus Hospital. Recent distinctions include being named a Top Female Executive and Elite American Health Professional by Worldwide Branding, as well as receiving a Worldwide Humanitarian Award. She has been featured in Pro-Files Magazine, Worldwide Broadcasting, and Worldwide
Publishing's 2014 Calendar Series. Ms. McGann was also named Professional of the Year in Medical Billing and Coding in 2012 and 2013. She looks forward to continued growth in the coming years, including new opportunities and openings in her field.
