MOSCOW, RUSSIA, April 03, 2014 (Press-News.org) The Moscow Economic Forum 2014 was held in Moscow on March 26-27, 2014. The key topic of the forum was non-resource future of Russia. The MEF 2014 was opened by its co-chairmen: Ruslan Grinberg, director of Institute of Economics Russian Academy of Sciences, and Konstantin Babkin, president of the Production Union "Novoe Sodrugestvo".
"We know that our country has a great potential of dynamic and long-term development - resources, people who want to work, vast agricultural lands. We have all conditions to expand to foreign markets," Konstantin Babkin said with optimism in his welcoming speech.
The MEF 2014 gathered over 2200 participants, around 400 of which were speakers. 4 plenary discussions, 10 plenary conferences and 32 round tables were held for two days of the Forum. The MEF 2014 was visited by foreign speakers from over 20 countries, namely the UK, Germany, Austria, France, Poland, Moldova, Romania, Lithuania, the USA, Canada, Brazil, China, India, Pakistan, Cuba, Mexico, Egypt, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
The recommendations on issues connected with Russia's new industrialization, a new look of the agriculture, the Russian-Western conflict, Eurasian integration, regional policy, social inequality and poverty were proposed at the Forum. Special attention was paid to the topic of corruption. The MEF expert community also had lively discussions of social and economic alternatives in education, science and culture.
Among the 2014 MEF speakers were Evgeny Primakov, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Prime Minister of Russia from 1998 to 1999; Ruslan Grinberg, the Forum's co-chairman, director of Institute of Economics Russian Academy of Sciences; Konstantin Babkin, the Forum's co-chairman, president of the Production Union "Novoe Sodrugestvo"; Oksana Dmitrieva, first deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma's budget and taxes committee; Vladimir Zhirinoskiy, the leader of the Liberal Democrat Party of Russia, a member of the State Duma's defense committee; Vladimir Yakunin, the Head of State Policy Department of the MSU Faculty of Political Science; Grzegorz Kolodko, Finance Minister of Poland (1994 -1997, 2002 - 2003); Yuriy Boldyrev, economist and opinion journalist; Mikhail Delyagain, director of the Institute of Globalization problems; Alfred Gusenbauer, Federal chancellor of Austria (2007-2008); Samir Amin, an Egyptian ecomonist; Maksim Kalashnikov, writer, currently running for mayor of Novosibirsk; Vasiliy Melnichenko, head of the Galkinskoye farm, co-chairman of the movement "Federal village council"; Sergey Shargunov, writer, editor-in-chief of the online media portal "Svobodnaya Pressa" ("Free Press"), Mikhail Veller, writer, and many others.
The Moscow Economic Forum is an international expert platform for the development of strategic solutions and anti-crisis programs, aimed at changing the course of economic policy in Russia.
