MORRIS PLAINS, NJ, April 03, 2014 (Press-News.org) The New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program, Inc. (NJMEP) announces that its programs and services have helped New Jersey manufacturers realize more than $2.5 billion in value. NJMEP has also enabled Garden State manufacturers to create or retain more than 20,000 jobs for the state's economy. The numbers reflect NJMEP's impact from 2000 through 2013 and are reported by an independent third-party, Fors Marsh Group.
NJMEP is a not-for-profit that helps New Jersey's manufacturers become more profitable. NJMEP's services are geared towards assisting state manufacturers increase sales, reduce costs, improve efficiencies and spur job creation. The organization is chartered by The National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), a network of more than 60 MEP centers across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
The $2.58 billion in value was realized through the following: $1.88 billion in increased and retained sales, $293.51 million in cost savings and $402.66 million in investments.
"We are very excited about the positive impact NJMEP has had on the manufacturing community and New Jersey's economy," says John W. Kennedy, CEO of NJMEP. "This year, we look to introduce even more initiatives that will help manufacturers become more productive and globally competitive."
NJMEP will specifically aim to help manufacturers through its Pro-Action Network, a program designed for progressive New Jersey manufacturers looking to embrace innovation, new technology, higher efficiencies and market expansion.
While NJMEP will continue to provide lean manufacturing services, R&D tax credit services, training grants assistance and workforce development initiatives, Pro-Action services will place a stronger emphasis on growth. Programs such as Innovation Engineering and ExporTech will help manufacturers develop new products and enter foreign markets.
The Pro-Action Network will have three tracks: Transformation, Enterprise and Medallion. NJMEP is also planning a major advocacy campaign for New Jersey's manufacturing community through the Pro-Action Network. This will include offerings such as an introduction to new technologies for manufacturers and classes on topics such as Lean manufacturing and ISO principles in both English and Spanish. The advocacy campaign details will be released in the near future.
