ST. LOUIS, MO, April 05, 2014 (Press-News.org) Katie's Pizza & Pasta Osteria, an Italian restaurant that serves the Greater St. Louis region, will soon be adding a pergola and large vegetable garden to its patio.
Construction of the pergola will begin next week. Once completed, it will cover long communal tables separated by large planters containing herbs. The planters will provide both privacy and ingredients for the restaurant's dishes.
The pergola will also feature a living green wall, much like the two located inside the restaurant.
Local artist Ted Collier is building the large vegetable garden beds from repurposed wood. Local horticulturist Johnny Lee will assist with planting and tending the garden.
Katie's Pizza & Pasta Osteria plans on planting heirloom tomatoes, kale, Swiss chard, watermelon, herbs, zucchini squash (for their squash blossom pizza), flowers and possibly corn.
Katie Lee, owner of Katie's Pizza & Pasta Osteria, looks forward to incorporating the garden's produce into the restaurant's daily specials. The vegetable garden will also feature a river rock path going through the center.
The patio is currently open. Guests can keep cozy with the provided blankets and heaters in the cooler temperatures. The final construction of the pergola and vegetable garden are expected to be complete by mid-April.
Katie's Pizza & Pasta Osteria has been serving the Greater St. Louis region with exquisite Italian meals made with the finest and freshest ingredients since November 2013. Nearly everything is made in-house including all of the dough, sauces, and dressings.
Katie's Pizza & Pasta Osteria is open every day from 11 a.m. to midnight and features Happy Hour specials from 4 to 6 p.m. and 9 to 11 p.m. Carry-outs are also available.
